We just returned from the quickest 9 day trip ever! We chartered from Island Yachts from USVI again because Puerto Rico and St. Croix are not off limits. Two points of interest this time were a sail from St. John to St. Croix and we visited South Sound on the south/east side of Virgin Gorda. We had nice sailing to and from St. Croix with about 15-20 knots and seas about 4-6 feet. It is a nice reach both ways, at least if the wind is from the east or south east. We spent one full day in St. Croix and two nights. The old fort and Christiantown's flavor along with a trip to Buck Island made for a nice stay. South Bay/Sound is a nice long reef, well protected and not far from the Baths or Gorda Sound. The entrance is on the NE side and average depth is about 9 feet inside the reef with a good sandy bottom (even if it is off-limits). The entry is not difficult unless high seas and swells are from the east. In general we like the conditions in May; not too crowded, mostly decent winds and not much rain to wake you up at night! The rest of the time was spent in our favorite hideouts on St. John and the BVI.
