We are 39 days away from our stay at Royal Islander and starting to wonder if the beach has started to come back yet. Does anyone have any current photos to share and is SBAG still open or closed for the expansion reno? Thanks for any info <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

The smallest beach I can remember, no beach from Tortuga on down to SBAG. Still two rows of chairs on side closest to Sonesta. On a cloudy day, I can recommend a tour of the new section of the Sonesta (Ocean Point) at noon. Only takes about 20-30 minutes. SBAG open and crowded on cruise ship days. Construction seems to going fast and like it or not, it will probably look really nice.

I saw in the Daily Herald the other day, an ad wanting employees for Sunset, and it said that the new restaurant was supposed to be open this season.

Thanks mahokid. We would really like to take the tour of ocean point. Is it only at noon weekdays. Can you tell me whether we will still have access to Sonesta to be able to go over, have a drink and see Cheryl, Ramone and the rest of the staff that we have gotten to know over the years?

This winter past we stayed at the Ocean Pointe - needed one more night. Cheryl was working at the Palms Bar - new person at the swim up bar and Ramone was working at the Ocean Pointe bar. The week before we stayed next door at La Plage - Did not seem to be an issue to walk around the Maho, but there was security stopping you from the Ocean Pointe. We politely said we wanted to check with the OP front desk and we walked thru and were given a short tour. Not sure someone could just walk in the OP and order a drink.
At that point the resort was not finished, might take a look this winer coming

I believe it may be everyday, but would not suggest it on a big check in day as we waited a little while for a person to become available to take us on the tour. The new rooms are beautiful and I did see it from the airplane on arrival.
Room rates are expensive for the upgraded rooms and all inclusive very limited if there for more than a day or two.

Carol, what new restaurant are you talking about? Is this the one right behind SSB&G, the old Bliss?

Right, it's supposed to be part of the 'new' Sunset, supposedly an air conditioned restaurant, according to the drawings.

Hi Barry....we were there Sept 10-17....no beach at all....just rock as it was last year during this time period. You can go into the front desk at Maho and arrange a tour of The Point no problem. Ramone was working the swimup bar until they closed the pool to install a new liner. Cheryl was on holidays or working upstairs at the Point. You have to check out the Bang Bang Shrimp at The Greenhouse over on Bill Foley Road....really good!
