Finally tried Moulin Fou”

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2015 NEW

After many years of staying in Maho, we decided to walk up the path to Moulin Fou.
We were very warmly welcomed and the service was friendly and attentive throughout
the evening. There is outdoor seating and as well as a comfortable air conditioned
dinning room. Onion soup was rich, hearty and delicious. Avocado & crabmeat salad
was light & refreshing, but not quality crabmeat. For entrees, rack of lamb was cooked
to preference with a wonderful goat cheese sauce served on the side. Shrimp and scallop duo was served on tiny house made ravioli. The raviolis were like little presents
for the palate. A bottle of infused rum is put on the table after dinner to enjoy. Dessert was Gio's gelato (across the street). a few hours latter after some gambling at Casino Royale. A inadequate12% gratuity is put on the check because the owner thinks the menu prices are too high and a larger gratuity may scare away some customers. A nice evening, but better food to be had in Gran Case.

I agree. I tried it once and it was ok but nothing to rave about. I was with 4 other women who felt the same way. Too many wonderful restaurants in SXM.

This last December I had one of the best meals I have had on island there. Fantastic service, food and presentation. Expensive, yes, but worth it. All I could think after going there is why did I wait that many years to try the place.

Also a lot easier than a drive to the French side if staying anywhere near there.

Cheers,
Todd

I prefer the Isle seat

I agree totally, Todd. We've eaten there many times and each one has been as you've described, and for those of us who have decided the long evening drive from our quiet little corner out to GC is no longer worth the effort, LeMoulin Fou is a perfect fit, and it's literally around the corner from the Towers which only serves to make it better, IMHO. I didn't think it was all that expensive by comparison to most of the other places we really enjoy, and in fact, it was less expensive than quite a few of them.

But, as is so often said, thank goodness we all have different likes and tastes, or else we'd never get a table.

Another HUGE vote for Moulin Fou. We have been making that our go to place at least twice each year. We have always felt that this restaurant rivals just about any restaurant on the island...including Grand Case. The service is GREAT...the food has always been perfection....and the price really isn't too much more than any of the fine restaurants on the island. We do always go dine there the night that Cheri's is closed....makes for a nice ambiance...without the noise. TWO THUMBS up for this one!

I'm a big fan of Moulin Fou as well. It may not match the best of GC for every item on its menu, but I've found it's an excellent restaurant with consistent quality and service. I like the inventive menu, too.

I'm firmly in the Fou corner as well!

We will do Grand Case for a lunch, but these days the trek to and from at night isn't desirable. We enjoy wine and aperitifs, and dislike driving or taking a taxi back to Mullet. Moulin Fou has excellent service and consistent food. Tuesday when Cheri's is closed is the best time to go.....or now, when Cheri's is closed until October.
