It's been a strange day. We were shut in all day, waiting for a storm that basically never came. We got almost no rain, but had high winds and high seas. We are still getting some high gusts.
Unfortunately poor Dominica was not so lucky.
To top it all off, the dump is on fire.
I thought you might like to see a few pictures I took from my balcony. As the sun was setting the sky turned some amazing colors.
Restaurants and casinos are open now!

Thanks Barbara for the nice pics.
I've never seen the dump fire up close. I've just seen the smoke from the balcony of our place at the Divi, it seemed like every Wednesday morning in March for many years.
Sure hoped you'd get some rain from the storm.

Looking at the radar, you would have thought you got plenty of rain. I know you all needed some.

Thanks Barbara for the info and amazing pictures! Happy to hear the storm was not as bad as expected. The rain will come to the island another way....less dangerous another day. Talk care and we are thankful your island home was spared once again.

We'll be there in 2 weeks! Sure hope you get rain but also a break from a major storm. We plan on stocking up on some supplies when we land, Just in case but will hopefully enjoy no worries!
My 83 year old mother will be with us and she's the only one I would worry about.
Then again, Hugo hit our area when we were away in a timeshare. We still mention that every time we go on vacation. Nothing like not being allowed home for 3 days with no idea where our pets were or how the house was, then 3 weeks without electricity, although I actually enjoyed that ( baby at home - didn't work at that time)

Thanks for the report and picture. I'm glad the island dodged the worst of it, and sympathies to those who didn't, of course.

And isn't the dump always on fire?

Re the dump fires, we were having dinner at Antoine's back in the Spring and it was the final night of Carnival when they would typically burn Momo. As we headed back to the Towers we got so involved in watching what we thought was Momo afire that we took a wrong turn and then a few more wrong turns and ended up touring half of St. Maarten by firelight. And all the while we were driving we never really got our bearings to realize that A. Momo wasn't that huge and B. We were actually witnessing a dump fire fairly up close and personal. Once we rolled the windows down a bit we knew beyond any doubt what it was.
