would like to know too. And while at it maybe someone in the know could post a list of "happy hours"?

I wasn't aware that MB had a happy hour. Not saying they didn't, just wasn't aware they did. As far as HH in general, please check out this thread My personal favorite is the Greenhouse. 2 for 1 drinks and reduced price appetizers. The only complaint I have heard people voice on it is that they are 2 for 1, not half priced drinks, so if your drink of choice is frozen, not real convenient. We generally both have wine, so that works out perfect!

Carol,
I was thinking the same thing, but in honesty, I don't have the definitive answer.
Years ago, before the restaurant fell under current management, they featured a pour your own honor bar with cocktail hour right before dinner but that changed as they did away with their traditional Caribbean weekly dinner menus. I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about a happy hour but perhaps Bob and Dot will see this and chime in since they still have timeshare there.

My daughter, husband and friends stayed there in June and she said they have a drink special each day that they post on the black board but there is nothing real special, very small. A few people have a drink on the beach and many just walk down to Karacters.

We were told by our neighbors that Karakter's was sold. Hard to believe. We were there yesterday and Bert (or Bart) was still there. Menus are newly printed, new chairs. They also have a drink special but no HH.

They recently sent me a reply message saying they were working on service, food, etc. Didn't mention they had sold the place. So who knows?

Yes, the new owners seem to be putting a lot of money into the place.

They needed to replace chairs and umbrellas on the beach for a while. I thought the last time we were there, the food had gone down in quality, but it was a Friday night, so they were slammed also.

Karakter in Curacao is a real big hit there. I had heard they moved there also, so maybe running both of the restaurants became too much.

I agree Carol-the food was not up to par. I hope they do well since this is one of the nicest locations on the island (IMHO)

New owners, yes. Not sure who owned the place in July but we were disappointed with service. I had an appetizer, was only ok. Service was slow and at the end waitress shorted me on the change so came out of her tip. Hope the new owners do well. Sounds like they want to. But this really isn't a thread about Karakter.....

Well, actually, it has become about Karakter, for whatever reason!! So I changed the name of the thread.. When I saw your post for a minute, I thought you meant Mary's Boon had been sold..

I thought the last time we were there, the food had gone down in quality, but it was a Friday night, so they were slammed also. I started to post this earlier but thought better of it, since the title of the thread actually pertained to Mary's Boon, but our last experience at Karakter was last November and quite truthfully, it was a far cry from the Karakter we originally came to know and enjoy under Jorritts easy-going but all-seeing style of management. The chairs were packed in like sardines in a can and the parking wasn't too terrific either - we were glad we're early beach-goers and arrived early enough to allow us to back into a reasonable parking space that would afford us a relatively easy exit when the time came. By the time we left, the parking was all over the place and we could barely get our little Corolla out. I was really glad we weren't driving a big SUV. And the final disappointment was the food, which while still good, just wasn't what we remembered it to be and the service wasn't even close. It was a busy day but no more so than usual and my only thought at the time was they sure were missing Monique and the crew that worked with her. There are so many other great places that this one sort of fell off our radar screen for all the reasons I listed and even the classy new beach furnishings probably won't be enough to lure us back but then, we also tend to be very forgiving so perhaps one more try........

Pat-Monique (or as we call her, Mose) hasn't been there for a few years now. She's at Simpson Bay Yacht Club with BF Chris. Saw her last night-she's leaving for vaca today for a month or so.

Thanks for your up-date.....we did actually bump into Monique at SBYC a few trips back and she up-dated us as to the where-abouts of many of her former co-workers at Karakter. They certainly did scatter and of course, we wish them all well including Jorritt and we're happy to learn his Curacao business is flourishing.
I'm sure, when push comes to shove, we'll probably try Karakter again next trip and hope that it's returned at least a bit more to the place we used to so enjoy. But at least if it's not, we've found other options to explore. That's one of the many very nice sides to SXM - there's always something new and exciting around the next corner.
