![[Linked Image]](http://www.traveltalkonline.com/photos/1659999-IMAG0642%282%29.jpg) Picture received from madg1108's daughter and son in law. I personally can't really tell much of what is going on. They also sent me a link to a video on Instagram, but nothing happened when I clicked on it. Still working on that..

We haven't been to as we call it "our island" for about 3 years due to my husband's failing health. I decided to come in September to get my head on straight. So I see by the picture Orient Beach is closed, is any part of it open or should I check that off my list. Thank you everyone on Traveltalk you have kept us so informed and upbeat about returning. I think it helped us get through the tough times. Thank you again. Maybe someday I can meet a bunch of you.

What is closed is the section from Pedro's to Kontiki. Everything is normal on the Club O beach and Pedro's, and everything from Kontiki to Mt. Vernon is in place. There are still plenty of great places to eat and drink along Orient. There is a thread in the People Talk section, talking about a get together during September. Check it out, to see if it is during your dates.

Just saw pictures on Facebook that show the foundation formed up with plumbing roughed in and waiting on concrete.

Thank you for that information. It will be all around the dates I will be there, but another time. I am planning to be there for 3 weeks next May. Can you tell me if St. Maarten is a winward island?

Can't really see from the picture, but if there's a foundation, plumbing etc... They have made progress from 3 weeks ago.

Yes, the picture really isn't too clear about what we're seeing.

Here's a short video clip of the area. It takes a while to load, so be a bit patient. https://goo.gl/photos/1mgztdMqnrVNCZuS8

Loaded really fast for me after you click on the small picture. Noticed a lot of beach erosion and short steep area in front of the place next to the end of the construction.

That erosion has been a problem for a while. Hopefully when this project is done, it will be less of an issue, because of construction of the wall and keeping the buildings back further.

The pictures on facebook show much more work being done. Looks like the footings and the pylons are ready to be poured!!!! the pictures as mentioned are under SXM or Bust.

..which is a CLOSED forum, which you can't even SEE unless you're on Facebook AND pass their inspection of your 'friends'. Please don't refer people to things they can't even see.

Can you ask whoever posted the pics to move them here to see? While I'm on Facebook, I was kicked out of that so called group for questioning someone's intentions. But would like to see the pictures

That is part of the problem kim, not EVERYONE is on facebook and for sure not EVERYONE is welcome in PRIVATE groups.

But a person on Facebook can download the picture from Facebook then copy and post the pictures on this forum or email the downloaded picture to someone that knows how to post here.

Correct but ONLY if you are a member of the PRIVATE group page where they are posted.
Simply referring people to facebook (especially a PRIVATE group page) does little good in this case.
Some people might also think they "own" the picture if it is on their personal page or group page.

If you can even see them, which is what I mentioned to EdB. I was part of that group and they acted like immature kids on a playground, questioned and got the boot. I don't care about the group, but would love to see construction pictures

Downloading someone else's picture and posting it somewhere else without the original poster's permission would be a violation of copyright.
As I said before, please do not refer to content on a closed board, which many, even on Facebook, cannot access.

It's only a violation it it has a copyright on the picture. If it's posted on a public media without a copyright it's fair game. Trust me, knowledge by experience.

But, like Carol says, whether or not it is illegal, it is proper to ask permission to steal a picture from a closed FB group page and post it here.

thanks...i was just about to ask permission to post them. i do not know anyone on the facebook page. all i did was click join...and in a matter of minutes had permission. i am sure anyone here could do the same.
i did love seeing that stuff is finally looking like its getting done. hopefully it will go fast...and that Danny( and any other of his relatives) decides not to visit the island later on this week, or at any other time in the near or distant future.

You're wrong on the 'copyright' issue. Fair Use is another thing altogether. Social Media Examiner, regarding 17 USC Section 106. Copyright attaches as soon as the original work is created, and applies to both published and unpublished works. As soon as you type words, click the shutter on your camera (or, for many of you, hit the home button on your iPhone), apply paint to canvas or paper or lay down tracks for your next hit, you’ve got a copyright (with some exceptions).
Copyright is an automatic right and does not require the author to file special paperwork, as is the case for trademark and patent. Registration is required to enforce the rights, but as a matter of right, an author is not required to register anything to get the right to use the “circle c,” showing the work is copyrighted.gary
Look up and wave!

I really take offense at the negativity about Facebook here. While it may be a "private group," it's really open to anyone who wants to avail themselves of it. In my experiences, the conversation is wide open, threads are never "locked" because some administrator feels that a thread has reached the end of it's useful purpose, and nobody that I know of has ever been kicked out of a St. Martin Facebook group. The only thing that will get you kicked out of the SXM FB groups is spamming with advertising. Everyone is welcome to join any one of them. All you have to do is ask.

I can almost assure you not everyone here would be welcome there. There was a poster earlier (kim) who in fact said she was "kicked out" of the "private group".
If it was " really open to anyone who wants to avail themselves of it", then it would not be private to begin with.
Regardless, not everyone is on facebook so referring people there doesn't work for many people still.

You can take all the offense you want, but several of us didn't like the bashing of this site and stood up! then got the boot. So maybe you are newer to the site and don't know the "players" or why it was done and the very mean spirited comments that were made, but it wasn't all rainbows and unicorns on that site. Maybe things have changed, and if they did, then why keep it "private" and find the need to approve people to join it??

The bashing of this site stopped a long time ago. I stood up to it, and am still there....and here. Many people whose posts here are well-respected also participate in groups on Facebook. There's room for lots of groups of people who love SXM, as is shown by the number of those on various internet platforms. The moderators of this site also block certain people when they become abusive or make inappropriate postings, as they should. What's done on the Facebook groups is no different.

Kim, I've been on both sites, this since 2006 and Facebook from the very beginning of SOB. Quite frankly, I find this one more controlling. IMHO. I find both informative, both have some very strong contributors, but I feel like I can talk a lot freer over there.

Back to the pictures. Does anyone else get the sense that the new buildings will end up being too close to the water? Scott
