These two guys reared this lion from a baby in England but the authorities would not allow them to keep it once it reached maturity so they were forced to give it up.

They took it back to Africa and placed it in a wildlife sanctuary.

A year later they went to see it and were told that it would n o t remember them...

There's no sound, but watch the video of their reunion.

How does one get a lion in England in the first place? And why would these "authorities" permit them to raise one at all, not just make them surrender it at maturity? Lions don't make good pets.

Yes, that's an excellent question, how they would have gotten the lion in the first place. I would have to assume that it is illegal.
