We have some vacation time left and are considering a trip to SXM in late August or early September (maybe over Labor Day). Will there be anyone on Orient Beach then? Will the French restaurants in Grand Case be open? I guess the real question is, Is it worth the trip this time of year? Thanks for the wise counsel!

I'll be there starting August 16 for 17 days and it is my favorite time because often times you have the beach practically to yourself. I have stayed in Grand Case then and there are more than enough restaurants open. I consider it worth going there then. It all depends, for me, if you like crowds or not.

We have gone three Septembers in a row and are on countdown to make it four. While certain things are closed, we never lack for things to do.

We will arrive Sept 19 to spend a week. As long as the Club O beach and the grocery stores are open only a hurricane could keep us from having a great week!

Our last trip..2014... we spanned Labor day.. Late August early September... Less traffic and less people but it was SXM so it was great... Orient Beach was very crowded on Cruise Ship days... not so much on non-ship days... Club O (we took a walk) was very thin on people..

The LoLo's in Grand Case were closing Sept 1 on our trip and we were invited to a "Vacation party" where there were Hundreds of locals and only a few tourist.. One of our very fond memories of 8 trips to SXM.. Can't really comment much more than that on a full week or 2 in September but it seemed like many places were closing

You're talking about traveling during the historical peak of the hurricane season in St Maarten, very early September. While the odds are likely in your favor, consider purchasing trip insurance "just in case".

Durathor, we will be there Sep 8 - 18th, staying in Orient Village. I see you're coming in on the 14th. Surely there will be others, maybe we could arrange a small TTOL get together between the 14th and 18th.

Absolutely do you want to send me a pm or start a thread to figure stuff out?

We are here now, staying at the Divi Resort, until August 14th. On Club Orient's Beach every day, up near the Papagayo. We will staying at Club Orient starting Friday for our last week.

Oh how we miss Club Orient !!! Club Orient's Beach is still our favorite nude beach... Edun Lake is okay, but not on the Gulf of Mexico. Paradise Lakes iin Land O' Lakes Florida is our favorite nudist/Lifestyle reaort.

My initial impression was to wave you off but others have made some good points on the advantages and we have actually been there that time, or really anytime over the years but when we last went we were literally 1 day ahead of closing on every place we went. Keep in mind that Club O is closed from the last week in August through the first week in October I apologize but I can't recall if Perch and Papagayo are closed as well. For me the beach would not be the same without Perch but that's me. That came up recently but my feeble mind fails me.

Neither Perch nor Papagayo have ever been open while we were there in September. Hasn't impacted our ability to enjoy every minute on the beach.

Someone here posted that the Perch was going to be open while the Club was closed. BUT Willie will be on vacation, which to me, the Perch without Willie isn't the Perch!!

Perhaps they are opening up the Perch as a result of the other closures.

I think they have been alternating--some years both closed, some years, Perch open some of the time, Papagayo some of the time, and this year, the Perch open. As you said, because of the other closures down the beach, it makes sense for them to try to have something open this year.

Here is the response I received from the powers that be at Club O about services in September:

The resort will be closed but we will still be renting chairs and umbrellas. The Perch should be open from Tuesday to Sunday daily.

Hi there, new to this forum. We will be in St. Maarten Sept 12 - 26 in the Simpson Bay area. Always nice to meet people. Any advice for first timers appreciated, have lined up a car rental from Unity so we will be able to get around easily. Debating renting a phone.

If you should plan something we would love to meet up. Where would it be posted?

Meet up details will be posted here or in the people talk forum - http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=sxmtalk

Will set something up once we get a little bit closer. Sounds like we could have quite a group.
