Quick one while thr internet works and before we head to Créole rock for some snorkeling. Can we check our bags at the airport and then head to sunset to watch planes come in? For some reason I thought we had to accompany our bags through some sort of security and wouldn't be able to do this. Thoughts?

In the old days the answer was yes. There was a recent string here that now u can only check a couple of hours before the designated flight

That 2 hr depends on which airline, time of day and what day of the week.

You don't have to stay at the airport after you check in and check your bags, no. As far as how EARLY you can check in AND check your bags, it depends on the airline and what day of the week it is. Many or most won't let you check in and check bags more than 4 hours before, although AA seems to have a lot more leeway about letting you check in earlier and leaving your bags than other airlines do. But if you're wanting to go say, three hours before your flight, hopefully you shouldn't have a problem checking your bags. However, some people recently reported Jet Blue wasn't let people check bags until two hours before. Best probably if you have time on island is to drop by the airport and ask in person.

As I posted earlier, I was surprised this past Saturday to be unable to check in as early as I usually do ... then go on my merry way on the island. This can now only be done (USAirways/ AA) 4 hours early - so, you should be okay.

Alright friends, sitting at sunset bar watching planes come in which means we were able to drop our bags get checked in and head over. Other than an email letting me know our connection is delayed which gives us more safety clearing customs I say its a good departure day so far.

That sounds like an oxymoron to me "...good departure day"! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Hope the rest of your day goes smoothly!
