People in that area are idiots, that's for sure! In this case, the taxi driver doesn't seem to be at fault. However, the taxi drivers contribute to the mess, when they stop in the middle of the road to load up passengers! We were stopped by a taxi driver in June who stopped in front of the boat bar and blocked traffic BOTH WAYS, while he loaded up his TWELVE PASSENGER van, VERRRRRRRY slowly.

I'm sorry anyone got hurt but where is the personal responsibility? People need to think about what they are doing and the associated consequences. Alcohol just isn't an acceptable excuse for stupid behavior.

Agreed, especially around Sunset. People walk in the road, walk on the top of the road divider, after drinking, and it is scary to drive by there, worried that people will fall into the road in front of your car, etc...

Where do you see not taking responsibility? She paid for damages, no?

She made a mistake, got carried away, and ended up hurt. Not sure what being judgmental does at this point.

I agree, she got hurt, I'm sure she learned a lesson. She was probably so scared, I feel bad for her. Like Durathror said it was a mistake. Let's hope she is okay, that's what I am thinking about.

This stuff would never happen if the police would drive by and charge those standing at the fence. Then they could check out the parking lot at Mullet and charge people breaking into cars-two problems solved in less than 1/2 hr. a day!

The police also should come by and stop the taxis from stopping in the MIDDLE of the road, blocking traffic both ways and picking up people.

They could do a lot of things that they don't seem to have on their radar.

I am always amazed when it becomes the responsibility of the Police to protect people from themselves....not others....themselves

Put up signs....advise of the dangers...and move on to deal with criminals (and cabs) not idiots.

Maybe if they mounted a TV showing the video of the young woman who was thrown like a rag doll from the fence hitting the median a while back it might deter some...not all but maybe some.

No way....it would spur them on...because...that haven't come to the realization that THEY are the idiots...yet

It is entertaining though....as a trauma nurse in BOS these are my clients

What does that mean exactly, when you say, you are a trauma nurse and these are your clients?

The Cruise Ship people do act really retarded. Whenever they are a lot Ships in our area , I always call the Patrol to come and have them removed from the fence. Why would someone seeing the signs but still decide to get a blast, grown people, catch find the word.

"in BOS"...well, because the type that do this in SXM participate in similar self injuring actions when at home...thus...they usually end up in an ER somewhere and become clients (or patients) of that facility...

Don't you know that people on vacation are Superman and Wonder Woman. Does not matter what do on vacation it just becomes just another trip story.
Why read the signs that are posted when everyone thinks it wont happen to them.

It's bad enough to stand across the street and get sand blown through your skin but to hold onto the friggin fence and not expect a rock to penetrate your skull is just plain dumb....and...it's no fun to watch...much better to watch multiple hat chasings and a couple of 180's into the ocean...

Not too long ago a young lady was struck from the fence and landed on the middle barrier, was badly injured.

Like so many things on SXM, when the cruise ship people find something it is time to move on. Actually, I think it was worse before they extended the runway because back in the day the 747's would stand on their brakes and go to full throttle. They actually pushed the water out to sea...

I read the signs and usually obey the rules, but I stood next to this sign for a half hour in Cruz Bay St John P.S. I this is not photoshopped!

As to Lesley's comment, here's a video link to the incident.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzA7YDLl2fM

This young lady lived on the French side according to reports in the newspaper and should have known better. Last I heard she survived after hitting her head on the cement curb.

Also, I'm fairly sure that Jim White coined the term, "You can't fix stupid" when he was at KMOX. I've used the term many times.

I don't think that is the incident Leslie was talking about. That video is from 3 years ago and the lady strikes her head on the far barrier, not the middle barrier that he commented on.

Pretty sure this is the one. We were on island when it happened and I remember there was a thread about it on TTOL as well as a story in the DH.

When we were flying back the young lady next to me commented on the fence and people standing there to get blown into the water. I commented on what a dumb and dangerous thing it was to do and she told me they did it!!

I never did the fence but I will admit to standing behind the wall on the beach and ducking behind it on a 747 takeoff but I was young and dumb...maybe 45! You know back in the day when topless women drank for free...

...actually, as far as I know, topless women still drink free at SBAG, unless something has changed recently..
