Just curious... My husband and I don't really feel like bringing pants to the Caribbean. We've usually always just brought dress shorts and also cargo shorts, and tanks and tees. But we want to try the Casino Royale this year - maybe just the slot machines (neither of us knows a damn thing about poker.) Would we be allowed in with dress shorts or even cargo shorts? (David and Eddie.. Chelsea, MA)

Dress shorts and cargo shorts? No problem. Polo shirts? Likewise. Tee shirts can be questionable depending on the styles and such but I'm sure neither of you would be wearing anything objectionable that would give you cause for concern.

One thing that amazes me, and I've never seen it but have heard and read about it many times, is that men might not be permitted into some casinos wearing sandals of the teva type as opposed to leather dress sandals.

Being a visitor from back in the day when suit jackets and tuxes and dresses and heels were required for entrance, I do get they don't want the casinos frequented by people dressed in beach wear but no sandals? I don't get that one at all

Respectfully,

pat

I wear Teva's all the time in casinos on SXM and I have never been approached by anyone telling them would not be allowed.

Teva sandals are fine. It is men wearing flip flops and tank tops that can be a problem especially at the Princess Casino. Other casinos are not as dress conscious.

Sorry about that - I was generalizing since DH and I both have Teva flip flops and that's what I was actually thinking about - but now that I think about it, he also has Teva strap sandals that he wears to the beach but for what it's worth, he almost always wears his docksiders when he's anywhere away from the beach. And it was Princess Casino and possibly Westin that I was thinking about since they're both a little more upscale than most of the others, or at least than the ones we're most familiar with like Royale, Starz (old Atlantis) and the Dunes.

You can wear anything you want at Casino Royale. I have seen over the years, anything from shorts and tees, to suits. They will be more than happy to take your money no matter what you are wearing!!!! All I bring to the island for years is a pair of Tevas.......and have never worn a pair of long pants anywhere on the island. This has been going on now for almost twenty five years. enjoy, relax, and good luck at the casino.

I never brought long pants to SXM, then in 2013 we went to Italy, and enjoyed the Passagiada(sp?)"evening stroll" and their habit of "dressing" for dinner. This time in SXM, I am bringing 2 pair of long pants and button down shirts for our "special" dinners next week. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> Plus, I would never wear a tanktop, and/or flip flops, or a hat to a sit down restaurant, but that's just me. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> regards, Phil

Last question... Are sneakers allowed? If not, we'll buy some closed-toe leather sandals or canvas slip-ons.

The only island casino that we have ever experienced any kind of a dress code is the Princess Casino at PDP. They had some rule against open toed shoes. ( I confess I haven't been inside the casino at the Westin since right after it opened though, so it's possible they may have some type of a dress code.)

Any casino that has a walk through metal detector at the front door certainly should not have to worry about a dress code.

Just back from the island. We spent 14 straight nights in Casino Royale. Depending on what we were doing for dinner, I have worn nice golf shirts, bermuda shorts, baseballcap, tee shirts with saying on them, sneakers and sandals. Everynight I was welcomed. Also, 14 straight nights of gambling at the tables, I broke even so, that makes me a winner. If you want to gamble, Royale will welcome you.
