Sunday, 1pm. Is the fastest way through the lowlands or go back by the airport and take the causeway? Haven't been on island since 2013 and the causeway was not up and running. Thanks, Phil

Just a guess, but I think it would be a coin-flip. Wish I could be more helpful.

I would go the lowlands route if for no other reason because it is more predictable. I have gotten hung up in Marrigot many times taking the causeway road. If you go that way turn left toward the ocean just before Marrigot and take the road around the fort to avoid traffic.

I agree....From Cupecoy already, i would go the lowlands, and bypass Marigot. From Maho i take the causeway.

Phil,

Kind of late with this response, but if in Cupecoy to begin with and particularly on any given Sunday, I would definitely take the lowlands route through Baie Nettle and into Marigot, taking the first traffic circle into the Marigot market area and then the left at the end of the market area and keep hugging the water past the yacht club and the tanker area and finally the traffic circle that will head you towards LaSavanne and ultimately will bring you into Grand Case.

So! What route did you take? Where'd you end up? And hope your day was a good one.

Pat,
Actually, the info is for next Sunday. Arriving, dropping luggage at The Cliff and heading to Rainbow for lunch and beach. I had sort of forgotten about the "traffic bypass" in Marigot (not sure how. The roundabout past the tanker area is the only place I have ever been in a road check on the island. Big, no nonsense, group of G men) That way does take some of the sting out of Marigot traffic. Thanks, Phil

I didn't post earlier because it looked like it was for today and I was too late, but since it's for next week --

I would take the Lowlands route and the roundabout into the Market Area (it's at the Cemetery), and onward.

But if you're coming back near/after dark, then I would take the Causeway return for safety.

Agree with the consensus that the Lowlands is the route to take.

Those who live there seem to agree...from Mullet to the Marigot ferry we were given a ride and Lowlands was the route. The taxi back also took that route and said it was the best choice.

Have fun at Rainbow! That was THE best day of our trip. Jean the beach dude, the cutie patooties in the restaurant, the beach was lovely. And the food...OMG!! their Argentinian beef was to die for.
Two bottles of Côtes de Provence later........ <sigh>.
