On their website they say they are closed starting August 24. Is this right? Earlier in the year they emailed me that they would be closed beginning August 16. Does anyone know for sure?

That is what their website says, closed August 24th thru September 30th. I would say that is pretty good info.

Apparently, it is not good info. I emailed Club Orient and they told me the website was wrong and would be corrected shortly to reflect that they are closed beginning August 16. We'll see if the website reflects the change soon.

I will show up in St. Martin August 16 because I want to be sure to be there when Club Orient is closed. I prefer the beach when it is less crowded.

That makes sense! Beach should be empty then.

What does it mean for them to be "closed?" Surely they will be collecting for chairs and umbrellas. Will Papagayo's or Perch be open?

I was there last year when Club Orient was closed and the Perch was closed too. I don't know about Papagayo's and I don't remember that they put chairs out either.

Traditionally they still rent chairs. I think as far as Papagayo and the Perch, they used to alternate them being open, but I THINK last year they were both closed.

I recall one year in August(about 2008), Club O had closed Papagayo and LeBoutique for renovation, and they offered an evening buffet at the Perch. The resort was only about 25% occupied, and the beach was empty. Watersports employees still collected for the chairs and umbrellas.
edited to change year to 2005** I remember now having to leave early due to Katrina bearing down on New Orleans and having to get home.

The Perch and Papagayo will be closed if they remain true to tradition.

Club O probably spent more on keeping The Perch buffet open than they made that year. We and another couple were the only ones who ate the buffet. Most other occupants of Club O cooked in their units or went out. Possibly why they close everything now.

The single most important issue for my wife at the Club O beach is the fact that they have great security people. Do they keep their security people in place during their closing?

We have been there three years in a row during the closure (Sept.) and have seen the security presence.

Thanks Durathror. I emailed them and while they did not answer my question about security here is their reply about Perch and Papagayo's:
The resort will be closed but we will still be renting chairs and umbrellas. The Perch should be open from Tuesday to Sunday daily.

I probably should not guess but it just seems logical that they would need to maintain security to protect the property and beach security is part of what you are paying for with your chair rental.

And they stop people from wandering through the chalets when they shouldn't. That is what I have seen most.
