There was a long-time member here who, prior to his passing, owned timeshare on the French side in the area of Ans Marcel. I don't recall the name of the property and don't know if it's still a timeshare or not, but that's the only one I'm personally familiar with over an awful lot of years that we've been coming to SXM. :

Respectfully,

pat

Years ago when thinking we might buy on island we asked and we were told no TS on French side only direct ownership which can be rented back out weekly and that to do that you must deposit a secure amount into a French bank account---I think it was 100,000 USD and you may add to it but not drop balance below that amount. That may have changed I don't know.

A friend of ours bought something using their business as security and did the weekly or monthly rental thing for a few years then sold out. So I know those rules existed once. They used to let clients and employee use it as a bonus.

I do not know what the current status is, but Cottages de Lonvilliers used to be a timeshare on the French side for sure. I believe there were one or two others, possibly including Nettle Bay Beach Club, although NBBC I THINK now is all wholely owned units.

Rosemary,

The gentleman I'm thinking of was Mr. Bob Pearlman, and I'm sure he owned French timeshare because we used to bicker back and forth about 'which side of the island' was better and when I mentioned to him we were considering purchasing some time, he told us it was too bad we hadn't acted sooner because HIS place on the French side was all sold out. (I think he was kidding about the latter, but perhaps not.) It was a timeshare that people often had a hard time finding if they didn't arrive during the daytime hours.

Sadly, I don't remember the name of the property but he definitely lead me to understand it was a timeshare and the ONLY one on the French side. It was located in the Ans Marcel hillside area between LePrivilege and Le Meridian but beyond that, I'm at an absolute loss. I think the name Didier stands out as perhaps being a manager, but that's just a guess and I don't even know where it came from.

Unfortunately, I've lost contact with Bob's wife, Maggie, since his passing. He was the TTOLer in the family.

Respectfully,

pat

Elizabeth--thanks, I'm not a member of RCI, so didn't think that I could look it up. I thought Mercure Simpson or whatever they call it used to be a t/s also, either that or it is/was an a/i. That I'm real fuzzy on.

Mercure was an all inclusive and was used by many different charters over the years.

Carol - Mercure Simpson Bay is an all-inclusive hotel in Nettle Bay and yes you may check out the RCI or II directories and not be a member.

Trade Winds Cruise Club (sailing TS) is also on the French side but I'm not sure if they are still active.

Trade Winds Cruises still show up on RCI website when I do searches for available weeks, so they are still active.

Pat, I think you are referring to Les Cottages de Lonvilliers. We stayed there a few times and it was different and charming, very European. I think it is still there.
