The Puerto Rican economy is in the tank, has been shrinking for about 10 years now. About 5% of the educated professionals have left the island for jobs

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/04/us/despair-and-anger-as-puerto-ricans-cope-with-debt-crisis.html

Yet, there are tons of expensive sport fishing boats invading every summer. Has there been a decrease in the nbr of Puerto Rican yachts coming during the summer? Just curious

Well I have to agree with you because the navy has gone to Virgin Gorda for the X-Mas in July party.

" Invading " ???? Sounds like a strange way to welcome our neighbors who spend huge money during our slow season enjoying these islands every year.

I didn't mean anything with the 'invading', except for the fact that you definitely know they are there - anchoring up in big packs. Agree, they bring a lot of business in the summer. Just curious if their numbers are lower than previous years

"Invading" said with a smile from us. We like peace and quiet, but we also like the unique PR energy with Grandma dancing on the transom. Good family people, friendly and quiet when its bed time for kids. My kind of invasion. Good neighbors.

Cheers, RickG

Rick
I couldn't have said it better. We have sailed around July 25 for several years now, and also enjoy that energy. They are great boat handlers, and we have learned a lot watching them as they anchor and raft up.

"Ditto" the last four comments - great people with great family values who know how to have fun. It's a slightly different culture, embrace it!

Yes, for those shocked by references to the "PR Navy Invasion," please be assured that it's all said tongue-in-cheek and in a good natured way. They all seem to be there for good clean fun and I've never seen any trouble. Wish I could say that about all BVI visitors!

Just as Fleet Week in NYC is described with the US Navy invading that city. And sailors welcome with wide open arms.

Nothing negative at all. I've seen the PR Navy rafting and dancing with multiple generations, lots of fun.
