Gil,

Don't know where you're staying, but you could let your fingers "do the walking" and if it were me, I'd probably call Blue Point first (at least I think that's the name?) and if they can't help I bet they'll know who can. It's in the little strip mall (the tall white building on the right if you're heading to P'berg from Simpson Bay) in the ColeBay/Simpson Bay area. They were very helpful to me one time when I had a problem with my netbook adapter getting fried while down there.

And I sincerely apologize up front for being so bad at giving directions.... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

There is (or was anyway) a nice Apple Store in P'burg. They were very helpful to me with a charger issue. One of the folks showed me it was just a loose wire and to wiggle it rather than sell me a new one.
It's on Front Street near the easternmost end. I used Sang's lot and walked the short distance.

I shop is now open in the Blue Mall and it states they are an authorized reseller. But to be honest, I don't think you can replace the battery in an iPad unless things have changed

Thanks Pat and Dr Doug. We're staying at Pelican. I'll take a ride over shortly.

They used to have a policy that they (Apple) would replace the Ipad if the battery died because it was not replaceable...maybe the equipment has changed

Correct, I think you paid $100.00 and they would trade you for same iPad, refurbished with new battery. Pretty sure there is no way to replace the battery now that I have looked at mine.

There are no actual Apple Stores in St. Maarten. There is a store called the iStore, that has multiple locations on the island. They are an authorized reseller of Apple products.

Actually it was replaced with a replacement Ipad and the data was not transferred. Happened to my father-in-law..

Was it done at the iStore or at an Apple store?

Shipped directly to Apple....

From Apple:

Quote
"If your iPad requires service due to the battery's diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee."

Quote
You will receive a replacement iPad that will not contain any of your personal data. Before you submit your iPad for service, it is important to sync your iPad with iTunes to back up your contacts, calendars, email account settings, bookmarks, apps, etc. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information when servicing your iPad."

Thanks everyone for your help. And pat as I was traveling over to the Blue Point strip on welfare rd. just 40 ft on the opposite side is an I-store. A. Girl named Flo looked at my iPad and said you don't need a battery, your iPad crashed. She had it rebooted in 2 minutes. Go figure. And no charge. Also on YouTube you can learn how to change an iPad battery, but it's a difficult project and very time consuming. Definitely not my cup of tea. Thanks again. Gil

There are shops in the US which can change an iPad or iPhone battery.

It sounds like what the woman at Blue Point may have done is to hold down the sleep/wake button at the top of your iPad while simultaneously holding down the home button at the bottom of your iPad. Holding both down for about 30 seconds should be sufficient to reboot an iPad which has crashed or hung up.

Glad that a "hard restart" worked for you. It's good to do that every so often with iPad and iPhone. Releases what's hung up.
