A few highlights from our sixth trip, January 12-26th

I had intended to do a day by day report as many do. When it was clear that wasn’t going to happen I figured that I could remember anyway. As I sit down to compile this I find myself in a fog (gotta be the Grey Goose) but I’ll do my best..

We rented the Villa, Seaside Retreat in Beacon Hill. This was an exceptional villa in all respects, location, view, privacy, amenities and value. This was the 5th villa we’ve rented and our favorite by far.

Rental car from Tropicanna. This was our 5th time renting from Mikey and while I’ve read some horror stories from some of you, we keep going back because it always seems to work well for us.

Beaches; Cupecoy is just not the same with the construction behind the beach at the west end. There was plentiful sand early but was totally gone in that area by the end of the trip as well as very sparse along the rest of the cliffs. We did go there twice early as it has always been one of our favorite beaches, and we'll always go back, but it will never be the same.
Happy Bay; In a 2 week trip we usually go to Happy Bay 3 or more times. This time there were two local guys who would just sit and stare at you, fondle themselves a little, get up and bother someone else and eventually come back and do it again. It’s unfortunate that they really spoil the mood of an otherwise great beach. As a result, our one trip to Happy was good enough this time.
Orient: Stayed away early in the trip as the winds were pretty strong but did make it there twice. We’ll always go to orient even though it’s not our favorite beach because of the crowd, especially on a heavy cruise day. We tended to like Orient better this trip.
Simpson Bay; we walked it most mornings and was really our first time in six trips spending any time there. I’m really amazed with this beach and its beauty.
Tintamarre; If you can get there, it is absolutely wonderful. We hiked back to the private beaches when the cruise people were there and the eight of us who took the Pelos over had the entire island to ourselves the whole afternoon.

Went to the Butterfly Farm for the first time and I have to say was well worth the time to do so.

We actually stayed at the villa half of the days, where we had the pool, music, drinks and snacks right there, not to mention the spectacular view. I cooked jerk ribs on the grill, just like Danny’s at Cupecoy (Cheryl said better), 2 days for a late afternoon snack. We also really got into Yacht watching; those boats too big to go through the bridge to the lagoon side drop anchor in Simpson bay. We had a web site of the 100 largest private yachts bookmarked and our binoculars and found it interesting to read about the ones we saw. How big, who owns it and details about it. Two of the top five were in Simpson Bay during our stay.

Ate at Halseys (twice), Pineapple Petes, Ricks, Sunset Beach Bar (I’m addicted to the fish sandwiches), The outdoor café outside the casino in the Cupecoy area, (I can’t think of the name) Lady C’s for all you can eat ribs, the Greenhouse in Phillipsburg and Don Camillo’s in Marigot, and Lals, our favorite place, a couple of times. I know I’m forgetting some more. (there goes the effects of the Grey Goose again)
For breakfast I usually cooked omelets, and made a bloody Mary’s although we went to Turtle Pier for breakfast on the 3 days the housecleaner came.

Weather was a little breezy early in the trip which blew in an occasional brief shower but became spectacular by the 4th or 5th day. Have to say the early breezy weather and showers didn’t deter us from doing anything we wanted to do.

All in all, one of our favorite of the 6 trips and we’re already looking forward to doing again next year.

Feel free to fire away if you have any questions. I have a lot pictures and I even put some of them in Microsoft Photo Story but I don’t have a web site. Is there a site out there where I can post this Photo Story?
