hey all-
where do I get the cruise ship schedule? i found "govment" site, but it doesn't seem to work for me, when i plug in my dates, nothing shows up. (july 10-20) the I want to be as far away as possible when big ones come in.
I assume they will run their own ferries to jvd and the baths, too?

Don't know the schedule, but just returned from a trans Atlantic cruise. The sight of two or three dozen giant buses waiting dockside at every port was reminder of just what sort of impact these things have on a small port of call. Don't remember too much about our stops, but certainly enjoyed being (in the words of the captain) "1000 nautical miles from the nearest land with 25000' of water under our keel".

Well, the pier is still under construction, so I don't think there are any ships docking in Road Town right now. I'm sure there are still some that are anchoring and ferrying passengers in.

looks like the only day you'd rather not be at Norman or the Baths is Wed July 15th.

Is the Ferris Wheel running yet?

Wow, they must have moved quickly. (elections?) When we were there two weeks ago, it looked like they had a good ways to go. Construction is often deceiving though. Much often needs to be done to lay framework and can look like not much is happening, and then suddenly the pieces are moved into place and it looks like everything happened overnight..

The cruise ship dock had a ship tied up Wednesday May 20. Construction was still underway by the gov't building and Maria's hotel for a I don't know what...visitor center, maybe, or souvenir shop's. It was a mess.

Sounds like they must still be using the pier while it is being extended. We were there shortly after the 20th. Wish I'd taken a picture of the pier, but it looked like the last third of it was still just pilings with no decking.

Mal, sounds like some fun reading. Do let us know when it comes out!

The expansion of the cruise ship dock itself is complete and the new "visitors center" is open. There was an official ceremony to celebrate the occassion on April 29th with a large fireworks show.

The last bit of the pier only has mooring dolphins. There won't be a deck there.

The 4 acre shore side development (called the Tortola Pier Park) is in its infancy and there is a lot more to be done in that area. It is supposed to include a shopping district, entertainment and several restaurants, including a Margaritaville brand restaurant.

From what I've been told, the government has a contract with Norwegian and Disney and they are supposed to have the shore side development completed no later than the end of 2015. However, they are still short another 16 million in funding in order to get it done. I believe they are actively looking for investors. Any takers?

AH! Thanks for explaining, that makes total sense now.
