Jetblue has $304 and it now looks like AA/UsAir is now at $303.

It used to be that AA had HORRIBLE connection times out of Tampa (and Orlando) to SXM, but looks like with those prices, I should start looking at Tampa much harder in the future. We haven't flown Delta in a long time--in fact the last time we flew Delta out of Tampa, our flight from Tampa was cancelled THAT MORNING, which didn't leave a good taste in the mouth, but guess we should try them again.

I just looked a bit deeper on the AA/USAir fare and unfortunately, it requires you to overnight in CLT. If you want earlier flights or go through MIA to avoid that, it jumps up to $346. Jetblue would be better.

Not sure what it is right now, but the AA connection from Tampa through Miami used be really crappy--4 or 5 hours, something like that, on the return.

AA is actually doing a mid-morning flight MIA-SXM. So you could leave Tampa at 9am and be in SXM at 2pm.

As I said, it USED to be the RETURN into Tampa was awful. I haven't looked at it lately.

On May 5th, we left Tampa at 7:35 a.m. and landed on time in SXM at 1:05 p.m. This was on American via Miami for $305 r/t.

Again, as I said, the RETURN back in Tampa was what used to be crappy timing...
Edited to add--just looked at the return into Tampa on AA and, unless you would accept that early morning flight out of SXM, which never interested me, the connection involved a WHOLE lot more money or an overnight. So for the return for sure, Jet Blue or Delta would be a lot better.

Just booked Tampa to SXM this morning 3/20/16 to 4/10/16 on AA for $752.00 tax included. Departure day in SXM is early but we are home by 3:00. I am always ready to come home by then. Very happy with the ticket cost.

As I said in my edited post, that's the only one that makes sense, from a price and scheduling standpoint, but I'm just not a morning person, can't stand having to leave that early. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Hangover.gif" alt="" /> We're never on island for nearly that long anyway. About 10 days and I'm ready to come home.

Carol_Hill said: Again, as I said, the RETURN back in Tampa was what used to be crappy timing... I wasn't trying to argue with you in my last post. I intended to reply to wilsonck's post to point out one could be in SXM about an hour earlier than 2 p.m., but your post got posted why I was still typing. But since you appear to be a little feisty today, I'll play along. You actually said "the AA connection from Tampa through Miami used be really crappy--4 or 5 hours, something like that, on the return". It would much clearer to state the AA connection TO Tampa if you're only referring to the return from SXM. I do agree that the flights back to Tampa on AA are not as good as their flights to SXM but there are some decent choices if you can find the right price such as flights 2219 and 919 (leaving SXM ~3 p.m. and returning to Tampa ~ 9 p.m.) On our return, we left at 4:25 p.m. and got back at 11:40 p.m. (via CLT) as we wanted to stay in SXM longer.

Lesley--Sorry to say, the nonstop to Miami is THE most expensive flight there is into Florida. The nonstop is ALWAYS more expensive than connections into other cities. If you send me your dates by PM I can do some checking and get back to you for options.

There are several flights in the low $300 range r/t to Ft. Lauderdale in August. You could then take the Tri-rail train to Miami or get a car.

Something other than Spirit? If Jet Blue is $300, that would be an option..

I searched for 3 night stays and Delta has 4 departure dates in Aug for $308. However, there is a connection in Atlanta for 1.6 hours. Jet Blue has several dates less than $400 depending on the number of nights he is staying. Spirit only flies on Saturday in August between FLL and SXM.

For $303 I got RT TPA to SXM: 23Jun AA1461 TPA-MIA 0900-1003; AA 2219 MIA-SXM 1100-1402 14Jul AA868 SXM-CLT 1620-2029; AA1873 CLT-TPA 2210-2342
The return is pretty late, and is actually flown by US Air (same plane type / much worse seating); but at least it is on the same day, with minimal fare.
