Hello all, 21 more days until I arrive on this beautiful island for the 1st time. We are so geeked. I was wondering a couple of things, both of which are trivial in nature. 1) Does the island have Diet Coke or Coke Light? 2) When going to the beaches, we rented a car, what are the parking areas like? Parking meters, free parking, attended parking, which should we expect and are coins necessary. Regards, Mike

Diet Coke for sure. Don't know about Coke Light.
Parking meters?? Huhm... Are there any parking meters on SXM?? I guess there probably are, but I don't remember them!! Definitely none on the beach. In general, parking at the beach is ample and it's always free. It's NEVER attended. It's ALWAYS park at your own risk--that is--follow one simple rule if you don't want to have problems--Never leave ANY thing in your car, at ANY time, at ANY place, for ANY length of time. Period. The second rule is the same as the first. PLEASE don't do it. Don't stop at a lovely beach and hop out for five minutes, leaving your camera in the trunk of the car, or the glove box or anywhere, and expect the camera to be there when you come back. DON'T stop at the grocery store or anywhere else on your way from the airport to your hotel and leave your luggage unattended in your car.

I have seen Diet Coke many times, usually stocked most places. I tend to like Ting on the island, in particular Diet Ting, and that is harder to find. As to car rental, I prefer the smaller cars just because they are easier to park and maneuver. But the jeeps are nice too if you can get a deal on one. Have fun.

There are no parking meters on the island. It would be fun though to watch people trying to shove coins from three different countries into them. The jams in the slots would drive lovely Rita meter maid to drink. On the up side, perhaps car break-ins would drop because thieves would be stealing the meters.

Used to our favorite drink, but now that hubby is on Lipitor cannot have it since must avoid all grapefruit products. Grand Marche has many diet sodas but sometimes sells out or fails to restock shelves. You might just ask if you don't see it.
