There is a Cruise3Sixty event in Fort Lauderdale going on right now. It is big industry show for Travel Agents, but there are a ton of exhibitors there and Alegria is one of them. Someone from one of the SXM facebook forums, who is well versed on the whole Caravanserai / Alegria issue actually went up to them and asked questions. Here is there response. Ok here comes the dirt straight out of the mouth of Janelle Schwartz, VP Sales, Marketing & Revenue Management.....
They are going to bulldoze everything but the Dunes because they own all the land around it.....interesting to note she bragged, I mean BRAGGED about how "they got this on the court house steps for pennies because the owner of Caravanseri was bankrupt"....
Apparently they have "been in very serious talks and just had a site visit" from Marriott.... Who is "very interested in putting in a Renaissance hotel"...
And they are also "going to build the entire area up adding an amphitheater, bars., etc"....
And "I am going to be thrilled with the area over the next 2 years" (I told her we make biannual trips to SXM)...
They are strictly a hotel now...but you can rent the rooms from a day or a month...

Learned a long time ago not to put too much into what sales and marketing personnel say. Let me know when the demo starts.

If that kind of money was going to be spent. Wouldn't it be better in Mullet Bay? And it has a beach.

Sorry, bulldoze all the current completed timeshare buildings also?? That makes zero sense. And the one building is a wholly owned building, I think. They can't bulldoze that building, I don't think?? ...although who knows, with this deal!

You really have to wonder what these people were thinking....

I've stayed at the Caravansari and with the shoddy workmanship on every aspect of the project it might be cheaper and easer to bulldoze the whole thing and start over.

If in fact they have decided to bulldoze everything, which we only have a PR person's word for , I guess they made that assessment. Would be surprising, if true though.

While I read and enjoy this forum daily for the past year, this is my first post. I put a large down payment on the condo portion of building D. it is my understanding that the two unfinished buildings are being demolished and they are trying to claim structural integrity damage due to the salt penetrating the unfinished walls since there was no coating applied. If it is not fit for finishing, insurance would pay for everything and they again make out like bandits. Sad results at the expense of all investors.
