I am relatively new to this forum and I thank everyone in advance for the information I plan to glean from this site! I'm a regular traveler to the Caribbean, the USVI/BVI and Jamaica primarily. I just booked a trip to St. Martin for the first week in January 2016. We arrive on New Year's Eve Day and we are staying at Sol e Luna for nine nights! I've made our NYE dinner plans at Sol e Luna which I have heard is an amazing restaurant. My girlfriend is a "foodie" and it is her first time to the Caribbean! I rented an FJ Cruiser through Sol e Luna as well which had a weekly rate inclusive of taxes for $500/week. Anyway....just wanted to introduce myself to the forum and I look forward to the coming months of anticipation! I think we made a good choice for our first time to SXM!

Welcome to the forum! While I haven't stayed there, I understand Sol e Luna is a nice place to stay and it definitely is a lovely place to dine!!

I might suggest though you re-think your choice of vehicles. I think that's a 4 wheel drive vehicle? You really don't need a 4 wheel drive on SXM, and the price is very high for a car like that, versus a beat up rice beater of a car, which is what most of us rent. Plus it's really hard to park that kind of a car on SXM as most parking spaces on the island are very tight.

Regardless, planning is half the fun, so enjoy the next few, long months!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

I agree with Carol. I don't think you'll be happy in the FJ; those things are very wide.

We try to rent the smallest car we can. In St Martin, size matters...for traffic and parking.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the car recommendations. I usually rent a Jeep in the USVI so I was assuming the same for SXM. We will be spending our time on the French side for the most part with a day trip planned to Anguilla. I'll look into a smaller vehicle....I thought the price on the FJ was pretty good all things considered.

Renting cars on SXM is MUCH cheaper than in the USVI..
