We're not going to make it to the BVIs this week, too much fun hitting the STJ anchorages and St. Thomas sights. Abi Beach Bar is (ahem) the best beach bar (for us) in the Virgins. No crowd yet, great service and great food. We had a great day there with Mrs. Capt. Jay on Saturday. Water Island is a big party on Sundays. Great Lameshur on St. John is a "no lights on the hill" experience with nothing but mountain above us. We spent the night in Hansen Bay, off of Coral Bay, last night met up with cruising friends from catamaran Mowser. St. John friends are coming by this morning for mimosas with the Mowser gang on De Life. On to Leinster Bay tonight.
We love the BVIs, but we are not missing the crowd. I am missing the happy hour at Myett's. I'm also missing the cruiser infrastructure, no dinghy dock at the grocery store in Coral Bay.
Cheers, RickG s/v De Life

Wouldn't it be great if somehow the USVI and BVI came up with a joint cruising permit allowing you to go back and forth! George

St John is still the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. Anyone who can't chill out on St John should be kept in a medically induced Coma.

Love it! Along the same lines... I've long wanted to do a sailing trip all the way around St. Thomas. Very few people visit bays west of Charlotte Amalie or on north side.

The NW side of St Thomas has quite a few reefs and at times strong currents that will overwhelm a sailboat. With a good forecast it would be interesting to check the north shore and visit Thatch Cay and large and little Hans Lollick cays.

I often see sailboats anchored near the small Cays in Pillsbury sound. On settled days that looks fun. Also have wanted to anchor in Megans Bay.
We've anchored in Brewer's Bay just north of the west end of the Cyril E. King airport runway. It's usually very quiet except for the odd jet that goes roaring off. However, that is a novelty in itself. There are other bays in that area that have always looked inviting but we've never even looked at a chart. There's Lindbergh Bay of course. We see the occasional sailboat in there when staying at the Best Western.

Sounds wonderfully relaxing Rick. Can't wait to get our boat down to the islands so we can "hop" from place to place.

Lindbergh bay tends to be a bit rolly during the summer months when the winds are usually south of east. Elephant bay off of Water Island and across from the Sub Base looks kind of transient but it's quiet and a short dinghy ride to Honeymoon Bay on Water Island where they have a beach bar and good burgers and steak sandwiches

We just spent Saturday night in Great Lameshur, was our first time on southern side of the island. The bay was great , but the water was pretty rough all across the southern end of the island over the weekend, was pretty slow going on Sunday as we departed east and then around eagle shoals ..... And the on around the island in counter clockwise direction. Salt pond looked really nice as we passed by. Definately off the beaten path if you are looking for solitude.
