According to the Daily Herald, the Sunset Beach is closing, Maho Beach is being eliminated and the runway is being extended in it's place..

This is a good one.
Phase 3 Project Extension to Runway 10 "Alpha-Foxtrot-Oscar-Oscar-Lima."
That kinda gave it away, but still a good read.
I'm waiting to see what the students at UNH will come up with this year.

I LOVED this part of the Daily Herald story....
"The project is solely funded by PJIA and passengers, with a special charge of US $75 to be introduced for both departures and arrivals"
[/b]Could you imagine? Another $150 bucks to fly to St. Maarten????

Yup. Anyone remember the one a couple of years ago, can't remember what it was, but a whole lot of people thought it was for real?? Giving away land on ring road or something?

"There have been several reactions from tourists. "Incredible, idiotic and mindless" were terms used by longtime timeshare owner and former lap-dancer April La Primier of Boca Raton, Florida."

Apparently quite a few people were fooled as noted in a updated story in the Daily Herald..including mention of this site..

Loved the part how the hope was to become only the 20th most dangerous airport.

I'm at Royal Islander now.. Amazing how many people were talking about it around the pool today....but most had no clue it was a prank. LOL

...and they won't read the followup that it was a prank. They will return home and tell all their SXM friends about the closing of the beach...and they will tell their friends.
It will be a "fact" in their heads for many years....

I tried to access the story from yesterday, but they must have deleted it from their records. Has anyone saved a copy of it that you can post or send to me as a private message?

It was a very cute story. Maybe we can ask them to post it somewhere online that it is very apparent that it is an April Fool's Day joke? It is a copyrighted story though, like everything in the ledger, so it can't be posted in toto here without their permission.

I think it was HYSTERICAL!!! the followup in the paper was totally priceless!! Amazing on how one fabricated story in a paper can garnish soooo much attention, but yet again, FOX news has been successful doing it for years. LOL

I think it is a very good idea. Liked the article, too bad it was a joke. Considering seeing the webcam today at SBBG mobbed by hundreds of cruisers, road blocked with tourists I really feel for the people who live in Beacon Hill and who stay at Beachside Villas. But beware someone some day will get hurt there (already have) and someone will have to pay, there is no regard to the warning signs. The place is an accident ready to happen! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />
