Ok everyone going to MARTYS DREAM BAR, go through the sidewalk entrance ,the gravel path next to the A building, and tell anyone who asks that you are guests of Lori Jean or Marty Sxm. Linda and I were stopped today and told, by the security guard that only guests could use the bar. . Algeria management apparently made the rule 5 mins before we arrived. Folks who know me personally KNOW I asked questions and saw Lori. She lives here and we are her guests. Alegria is at it again! Both Marty and Lori live there.they cannot stop people from going to a public bar.
So folks, go be Guests!

For as much mention as they get, they should consider supporting TTOL.

OK, I have to say, if Marty has a contract with those people that allows him to run a bar there, then I would assume that the terms of his contract allow him to sell drinks to folks from outside the resort. If his contract DOESN'T allow him to do that...

And, what JD said. Marty has gotten a tremendous amount of free advertising here....

But the question is..: is it a public bar? or is it a "private bar".... It does stand on a resort private property though, and even if it is a "public" bar, he may not have any easement allowing its guest to walk through a private property.. that can be VERY tricky!.. so do not assume anything (or believe what you hear or being told) before knowing really what's on the lease. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Keep in mind, they don't own the property. They just have the right of long lease. The property is still owned by Country Sint Maarten.

Assuming that when you say "the property", you mean "the land".... Like many parcels of land in St Maarten, including some of which where private houses are built.... Long Lease (real name "Erfpacht") is basically the same as ownership as long as you maintain it by paying your due every year.

It seems that all was well until this new owner took over. I'm not familiar with the laws on SXM but I'd think that the new owner would want the bar to do business as usual. If non-guests go to the bar they just might become interested in staying at their hotel in the future. It's all about exposure.
I find this bad business. And for all who've met Marty you know that he doesn't need to advertise anywhere...he's a walking billboard! A cause celebre if I've ever met one. LOL.

It's interesting reading about the changes on SXM....some positive some not so...
