Hi

We are looking for recommendations.

My wife and I are taking a quick break from the weather up here, flying into STT on Thursday and going to CGB. We leave again Monday afternoon.

Our goal is laid back time, but we have only done a single cruise many years ago in the BVI, so have not explored Tortola at all. I figure one day of doing nothing will be great - and we will have a vehicle.

The only excursion we are contemplating is a day at Cow Wreck Beach, which we think is as close to heaven as you can get. Looking for other suggestions on Tortola, and options for getting to Anegada or JVD that don't require a lot of work...

Thanks

Pitt

You can take the ferry from Road Town to Anegada on Friday early morning (6:45am) or Sunday (8:00am) -- I think there may be options for flying there but it's not something I've ever done so I can't weigh in on that. You can return at 5pm both days to Tortola.

There may be other options besides the ferry for JVD -- but you can ferry there from the West End pretty easily. Where are you staying at CGB?

Have fun...

Fly to Anegada...VI Airlink $99 RT last I looked. Same days as the ferry, but only 10 minutes. Trip is too short to spend a lot of time on the ferry back and frth.

thanks - we are staying at the Mongoose Apartments - close to the action, but quieter (we hope)

Flights to Anegada sound perfect - do they leave from
Beef Island?

Yes it does, we are taking one for the first time on Wednesday morning. A 10 minute flight vs. the ferry ride was a pretty easy choice.

You can wander down to Columbus Sunset Bar right there by Mongoose and pull up a barstool and visit with them for awhile. If you're there on a Saturday night, even better, join in the conversations with the local regulars. Oh yeah, almost forgot, Rose has Blue Bell ice cream in the freezer...worth it.

Bananakeet and Brandywine, see recent post about "Restaurant Ramblings". Also in addition to CGB you got Long Bay, Smugglers and Apple Bay.

Please report on the flight to Anegada, it sounds like a great idea.

As long as you have a reasonable set of expectations, you'll enjoy Mongoose Apartments. We stayed there in 2013 and the units are clean, well stocked, and in a nice quiet area back from the road. Luxury, they are not. But very comfortable and a convenient base for walking to/from all the Cane Garden Bay fun.

I'll toss my $0.02 opinion. You say your goal is laid back time. You likely won't be checked in and unpacked til late on Thursday afternoon. And you leave for home on Monday. That only leaves 3 full days to relax. My opinion would be to stay put on Tortola, exploring the beaches all over the island rather than hustling to the ferry then taxi around JVD. Same with devoting a day to get to/from Anegada.

If it's laid back time you want, pack a cooler with some food and drinks (Mongoose will provide one) and drive out to Smugglers Cove. Take the road around through Belmont past Steele Point and relax over at Sopers Hole or Fish & Lime with a drink by the water. Drive out to Josiah's Bay and Long Bay at Beef Island. Hop over the hill to Brewers Bay and have a burger at Nicoles, chill on the beach, and snorkel.

I always eat at Palm's Delight in Carrot Bay. The service is on "island time" but the food is out of this world.

Agree with Charlie on this...with just 3 days stay on Tortola..save the rest for your next three week trip!

Same suggestion here. More than enough to do on Tortola, as great as Anegada is, for a three day trip, I wouldn't suggest leaving the island.

Enjoy!

Great advice - thanks everyone - good reminder to not try to pack in too much and just chill. I'm sitting here in cold NH sipping on some Mt. Gay trying to get in that mode.

Just checked out Limin Times and Mitch Woods is playing at Myett's Saturday. Any reviews out there?
