The last time we went I'm not sure we even had cell phones or the Internet (ha).
Im not sure sprint has any towers over there?? I'm thinking we need to get a one week international plan just in case the kids need us in an emergency..
Any thoughts?

Go to the TTOL sponsors list and rent from Sharon, Queen of SXM. US carriers charge a lot of money per minute and the service often isn't the best.

If you have the Samsung note 3, you can unlock it and use a local sim card.

We've never bothered to do anything beyond using wifi and our US phones. Anyone who really needs us can call the hotel to get a message to us. Not too much we can do for anyone from St Martin anyway.

I would rent a phone from Sharon. If you have an ill relative or family member, having a phone is priceless. I know first-hand. An emergency at home has also happened.
It is also good to make reservations, communicate with friends/locals and just a good piece of insurance.

Any thoughts? For Sprint you can go to http://www.sprint.com/international from there you can click on Traveling Internationally and punch in your destination and the device you have to see if it will work. Assuming it will they give you the rates etc. That all being said Sprint has crummy international data packages but that can be overcome with wi-fi. If you are only looking to make a few phone calls then you are probably in good shape. Regular rates are $2.99/minute but you can pay 4.99 for an international dial plan and get the rate to 1.69/minute. Texting on the other hand is Send: $0.50/recipient; Recv'd: $0.05/msg.
