In all the times I have been to SXM, I have never made it to this place. Where is it exactly located and what is it close to?

From some digging on tripadivisor... "This food joint is a modest trailer in busy Simpson's Bay on Airport Road, right beside the RBC bank (about 20 yards from Paradise Car Rental)."

In addition to what was previously stated, it is across from the Palapa Center.

Well worth a visit but Hilma operates at her own pace and takes care of one customer at a time.

Local food, johnny cakes and great conversation along with cold beer.

It's between Little Jerusalem and Shell Inn on the same side of Airport Road. Her closing time varies so don't go too late in the afternoon.

Turquoise Shell Inn to be exact.

Hours are from around 9:00 (sometimes earlier but she will let you know if she is not ready to serve) to around 3:00.

So since it is only 4 stools does she only serve the folks that are sitting, or does she do take away as well?

She does take away if you prefer, but if you want the true experience, a stool is required.

Absolutely! We missed our Hilma's breakfast this last trip, but I look forward to it every year. Saltfish, johnny cake, Dutch coffee, and great conversation.

Agreed. Ate there yesterday, with my usual supply of cinnamon bush in hand for her. Had a great visit, met a fellow jerseyan as well. A must do every visit!

Hilma's saltfish Johnny Cakes are wonderful for lunch! Especially washed down with an islands beer...

It's a trailer with four stools at the back "serving end" but it is wonderful "food truck" fare with an island flavor . Highly recommend it!

Do not let the words "salt fish" deter you...that is how the filets are preserved...and have been for hundreds of years. They are NOT overly salty upon serving!

Sorta like how "Syracuse Salt Potatoes" are not really overly salty...just creamy smooth and delish!

(Yes, I grew up in Syracuse NY...)

Sounds wonderful. I am seeing from the Anthony Bourdain article that I read "dutch coffee" is cold beer which is my favorite thing.

I love learning things!
