This will be a quickie - as some of you know, I had to run down to SXM at the last minute for a funeral on Thanksgiving . So, clearly, this wasn't a typical trip, but I still managed to do somethings worth reporting!
First, thanks SO much to all of you, especially Belair, for giving me advice on post-thanksgiving day tday dinners. Unbeknownst to me, my mother (god BLESS that woman) had cooked dinner for us cuz she knew me and my brother would miss it. Ah, the joys of being the youngest kid So we never made it to Los Gauchos, but I will keep them in mind for future trips.
We actually didn't eat in Grand Case once (still can't believe I didn't eat at Spiga). We did eat out 3 times at more low-key places, and each time it was EXCELLENT:
Yvette's - French Quarter. Apparently, my parents eat here often, and I see why. Real, authentic west indian food. I think the cook is the old cook from Mullet. He was very gracious and the food was out of this world. Had the panfried snapper and coconut pie that rivals my mom's (she does't "do" the internet, so I can say that freely)
Lee's Roadside Grill - Simpson Bay. I hardly ever venture to the dutch side to eat - such a pain from Colombier, but my Aunt loved this place and hey, she was paying. OH MY GOD. The BEST grilled lobster I've ever had - and lord knows I LOVE lobster - it is my favorite food. I don't know what they cooked it with, but it was awesome. I had some of my brother's chicken, and it was great too. I willd definitely be going back - dutch side and all.
Mark's PLace - uh, Great Bay i think? It's at the roundabout. My Dad walked in and it was like Cheers - Mark and the waitresses all greeted him. I see why my parents love this place so much. Apparently, whenever they venture to that part of the island, they ALWAYS stop there. The panfried grouper was superb and the snapper in a boat was great too.
Other than that and a short trip to le Gallion, I spent most of my time parked at my parents house, visiting with relatives and enjoying the weather. On my last day, I sat on our balcony, felt the warm breeze, looked out to the mountains that surround the house and wondered why the heck i was coming back...
That's all!
