It will be $20.00 each way plus taxes and fees. I heard it will cost the locals $56.00RT for a day trip to SXM. Ellen

The one way was $15, so if raised to $20, that will be $40 RT plus taxes. This yr departing Anguilla was $13, we went from the Dutch side no depart tax from the Dutch side, but I think the Fr side depart is $5, so that would make the RT from Marigot $58. GB Express from the airport was $90 + $13 Anquilla depart tax J&B

I think the public ferry is cash but I am not 100% sure. I have never personally witnessed anything but cash payment.
On GB Express last year I know the tax seemed much higher when returning to the Dutch side.

Public ferry is cash and for the depart taxes, have only seen cash used also. The Anguilla depart tax is $13 - we paid that for GB Express and I believe that is also for the public ferry Did not go to Anguilla last yr, maybe the $13 Anguilla depart tax was $13 last yr? J&B

I think it went up to $13.00 last year. The departure window in Anguilla does not take $100.00 bills. They take cash only on the ferry and at the window. I carry $20.00 bills. We have not taken the ferry in a while, we prefer to fly in or take GB Express, but we might take the ferry this trip as I hear it is a short ride to the dock with the new bridge.

Two years ago as 2 couples in our 30's we did Aquamania to Anguilla with a snorkel stop at Prickly Pear along the way. We had a blast. Half the fun of those trips is the drinking and fun on the boat to and from. This year we plan to ferry and rent a car to explore. It really comes down to what do you want to do? From what I understand you can still have a great time beach hopping on your own etc and checking out the local beach bars.

If you are going to rent a car in Anguilla I understand you need a special drivers license.

The special license, while required, is not a big deal at all and as I recall, it's a matter of an extra form at rental time and an extra $20.00 for the driver. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Yes, the drivers license is handled by the rental company. The hardest part is switching between left and right hand driving on the same day.

Can you recommend a beach and beach bar? Are there any paddle board or sunfish sailboats for rent?

I think Shoal Bay East is the best beach for a day trip, it is rated as one of the top ten beaches in the world. There are plenty of beach bars, and places with chairs and umbrellas for rent. Get a cab at the dock, tell the driver what time to pick you up for the return. Or, go early and ask the driver for a tour - think it is $50.00. Have a great trip. Ellen

It doesn't appear the story is in the online Herald, but apparently the ferry operators have been told that they have to get government permission to raise the ferry fares. So, until they get permission, fares will stay at $15 one way for adults and $10 for children.

I went there a 2 years ago and signed the rental agreement and got my driver's license right on the hood of the car. It did take a little getting used to driving on the left.
