There is often discussion about the "best" burger on the island. After having the burger platter (salad and a lot of fries) at Mark's Place last night, IMHO it is the best burger I have had in the last few years down here. Great flavor and cooked perfectly.

We agree 100%!!! Love the atmosphere and all the employees. Great talking to Mark as well. Always stop right after we pick up car and shop at the market nearby. Can't wait to get there.

JD....never have had a burger at Mark's Place...but am not surprised at all that it would be a great one!! Everything that comes out of his kitchen seems to be just about ''perfect''. Still one of the best ''hidden jewels'' on the island.

We too love the burgers at Mark's Place. Getting hungry just thinking about it. Service with a smile. Love that place!

JD, Still fondly remember the times at the old location in Cul du Sac before one of the L (Luis or Lenny)hurricanes blew it off the hillside. My wife still raves about her first meal there and watching Mark looking like a maestro in the open view kitchen. The new location is much closer to the Divi for us, but we do miss the exciting trip to the old place. For the newbies, do not let the location scare you off, once inside you won't notice the parking lot nor lack of ocean view.

The burger and fries on one order are enough that my wife and I nearly always split it. Then again, nearly all there dinners are so big we split them.

kccouple said: The burger and fries on one order are enough that my wife and I nearly always split it. Then again, nearly all there dinners are so big we split them. True dat! I have been fooled once by their "all you can eat ribs" special. Their portions are so big that a regular order of ribs would have been more than enough for me. Now I just order their regular serving of ribs and I'm full. I will admit that I'm not a big eater, especially at night, so others might have a different opinion and take full advantage of the offer. By the way, their scalloped potatoes are excellent!

They will also let you roll your rib order into an all you can eat if you decide you need more. And yes, their scalloped potatoes are the best. Their steaks will feed three people.

My favorite dish at Mark's is the Curried Goat! The first time I tried it was on a dare... Now it is my mandatory P'burg lunch once per visit! Unusual...but delish!

Bill--I think I will pass on curried goat, but my traditional meal there is what I think they call garlic pasta--fettucine alfredo with chicken. YUM, and definitely enough for at least two meals.

Pretty sure they are grilled and not done on a flat top. If I am there again I will try to find out.

I'm really not a fan of gamey meats in general. I have to assume goat is pretty gamey?

Baby goat is not gamey. Tastes like lamb. Adult goat, aka "mutton" in India is more gamey but is still very good. Not everyone likes goat but I do, once in a while.

Not gamely in my opinion and the curry if done right is not overbearing.

You ate shrimp pasta for breakfast? Twice? I'm sure it was an excellent dinner since everything at Marks usually is, but shrimp 'anything' for breakfast........?

Hmmmm, pasta for breakfast? Even that doesn't sound great to me but WE!!
And no, Scubaman, never had a shrimp omelet and while I'm a firm believer in 'to each his own....' I'm thinking I probably never will. It just doesn't sound appealing to me, but of the two options mentioned, so if I had to choose one, it would probably be a pasta breakfast, for sure.
