are there any islands where we need to be careful about drinking the water,eating raw vegetables that were rinsed in the water or ice in our drinks

Have never worried about ice or veggies - I drink bottled water but it's more out of habit than anything else...no one drinks tap water in Los Angeles <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

We drink bottled water, and also use bottled water to brush our teeth.

Same for charter boats... we use the water in the tank for cooking and washing dishes but not for drinking.

On shore I drink the water from the tap and on the boat drink bottled water and use the boat water for brushing teeth.

If you are drinking the ice, you are drinking the water. There is no reason to worry or fret about what you cannot control. If there were any real issues to worry about here the charter boat business would die... There simply is no escaping the local water on a week long trip and any issues with illness here would be very evident and nasty... What to do with trash and running out of ice are larger issues... to not worry about.

like others above, we eat and drink on shore whatever we're served, on the boat we only use the gallon jugs of water, interesting to note that the moorings lists in their list of equipment that the boat water is not-potable (not drinkable)

right i know we are not to drink the water on the boat..and from all other threads on this forum i assumed there was no problem with the water on shore..but i wanted to make sure..Thanks for all the info

have had many PK's , Dark and Stormy's and Bushwackers ashore, the only side effects were a headache the next morning but assume that was over indulgence in the the booze not the cubes <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

Posted this here before..Glenn " The Professor" Ashmore ( moderator here) tested our cistern water here at CRC and it was really clean and we use it for everything here with no problems..

Come on Laura. After all those Dark and Stormys and Cuba Libre's you have to admit the headache the following morning is from BAD ICED CUBES. Interestingly enough the same thing happens to me in Manhattan Beach when I have too many ice cubes.

We drink tap water on land and bottled water on the boat. I'm with maytrix, I'll brush me teeth and make coffee with the boat water and would drink it in a pinch. For villas with cisterns, I'll take a look at the filter and decide based on that. I've seen a lot of filters hairy with red algae, me no likey.
