There was an article in the Daily News this morning stating that TSA Precheck started this week at the airport. The Daily News on line is a day behind the dead tree version, so I will post the link when it becomes available. I know a lot of people will be happy to hear this!

It was up and running last week when we left STT. Totally separate line, bag x-ray and scanner.

Yea... we went through on 2/23. Pre check line was closed but they let me leave my shoes on. I thought that meant ok to just run my bag through, without removing laptop. Got all kinds of attitude from TSA agent, and she then dismantled my stuff, swabs everything. Took 20 minutes. Then enjoyed gourmet meal in the terminal. I think it was goat.

Sounds familiar, like the old version of STT TSA Pre-Check, but with a dedicated lane. On the plus side, if you forget and leave bottles of hot sauce in your carryon bag they'll let you take them through if its a local product.

Just applied for TSA Pre, was surprised when the agent said that I should not assume every boarding pass will have the Pre-check designation as it is awarded randomly. So, even though I might be flying on one of the participating airlines into an TSA Pre-check airport, I still might not get the designation.

Ya, it does seem random. Once, I got it and my wife didn't. There was hell to pay once she got through security. It was OK as I was already halfway through my first beer at the lounge.

That happened to us departing Miami but in reverse, my wife got precheck and I didn't. The line was long and TSA was walking down the line checking ID and boarding passes. They asked if I was traveling alone. When I pointed at my wife in the short line the agent walked me around to the pre check line and said marriages are ruined by such things!!

We went ahead and spent the $100 to get in the Global Entry program. With the known traveler number they assign you you get Pre Check every time. You also get to skip the line at C&I for international travel when you return to the US.
