I apologize for posting on such a sad topic, but it's important, I believe, for sailors visiting the BVI to be aware of safety-related matters. A tragic, early morning boating accident near Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda, left two passengers dead and the captain in critical condition. Here's a news report: http://www.the-triton.com/2015/01/two-die-virgin-gorda-accident-captain-critical/We had arrived at Leverick that night (1/24) and awoke to find the staff in a melancholy state... most of them had been up all night assisting the rescue effort. This sad news drives home the danger of attempting to navigate the BVI at night. According to the locals I talked to, the danger is multiplied both by the paucity of illuminated navigational aids and, in some cases, their questionable location.
