We will be arriving St Thomas in April for bareboat charter out of Red Hook. Have done this a couple of times before, in 2013 and 2014, both times I obtained a rental car from Budget, drove to marina, checked in. Then took car to Food Center for provisions, with sleep aboard that night. Next morning return rental car to a Budget desk at Sapphire Beach Resort, which is very close to the marina. Renting a car for 1 day normally costs about $55 to $60, so a pretty good deal and very convenient. The problem now is Budget recently closed their rental desk at Sapphire Beach.... so trying to determine easiest way to get from SST airport to marina, then be able to provision, etc.. I was not sure about using a taxi service to go to the store, seems a little weird.... On the other two charters, we really liked getting our groceries and drinks at Food Center, only about 1 mile from marina and pretty good selection. There will be 4 in our group for this trip. Any advise or suggestions is appreciated.

Most of the smaller taxi companies will pick up at the airport and most likely pick up the car in Red Hook. We used Zip Car Rental, don't have a number sorry.

I'm not sure who you are chartering from. Do they have a driver or an idea for you? I see taxi drivers and fares all the time at Food Center and I know that Island Yachts, for example, has a dedicated taxi driver. There is also a grocery in Red Hook called Moe's, in the old Marina Market space.
I WISH we had an SST airport, I think our abbreviation is STT. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

We are chartering from island yachts.... When I emailed to ask about transport from airport they sent this info----
"You can take a taxi from the airport to our location in Red Hook (The American Yacht Harbor.) The rate should be approx. $12-$15.00 per person. Ask the VI Taxi dispatcher to put you in a cab going directly to the Red Hook area."
So it doesn't look like they have a dedicated taxi service. I will certainly call them to follow up to see if the have any additional info.
Thank you all for your suggestions

My understanding is that the guy connected with Island Yachts can't pick you up at the airport unless you arrange directly with him. He can take you shopping and back to the airport no problem.

Find a better driver. http://stthomassource.com/content/news/l...-pickup-airportI see many independent drivers picking people up without issue. I think most would gladly pay an extra 50 cents to not be packed in to a cattle car like the Association prefers and then get the Island tour as the taxi makes many stops.
