Thank you Carol, our friend was looking for 5 days in the sun, walks, napping, relaxing, dining on the property, as she has done in the past.
Knowing Sarah after this experience, she will probably take her towel back to her studio each time from now on, when she wants to take a walk on Orient.

It's a shame to have to do that! And what if you're visiting from another resort on the island? We leave our towels in our chairs at Kakao for hours at a time when we go for walks or into the restaurant for lunch. Have never had one disappear, and am knocking on wood right now that it doesn't happen in the future. But I guess a La Vista towel doesn't have the allure of a Club O one.

Lreserve - sorry this happened to your friend, and I'm glad she ultimately wasn't charged. You can't fault the Club O staff for following policy though, and the policy is you are responsible for returning your towel, just like your room key and safe lock. Getting things stolen sucks, but that is the risk we take leaving items unattended on the beach, which I do every time I stay at club O.
To me, the perceived risk of having a towel stolen (low) multiplied by the cost of the towel (low) is less than the hassle it would take to secure them or take them with us on walks. Even though Club O provides security, they can't be expected to watch every chair at all times.
If the staff were rude to her, then she should let the GM know. But your original post said they were "firm", which is different than rude.

My point of vue is that we leave our towels on our chairs all the time and never had an issue. But, if i were to come back and my towel was gone, i would go to the office and explain the situation. And if the charge is $20, i would asume the charge as I left it unattended. I spend more then that at happy hour...!!!
My $0.02 Worth..!

Agreed, Marc! I certainly won't change my habits, and honestly never even considered that someone would steal my towel.

Thank you for your post, I do understand.
When I picked up Sarah Tuesday evening to go dinner, she related the story to me, the day she arrived to the office about the missing towel, the person was firm, when she went back that evening, to try to speak to management, ( I was waiting in the car ) the person was curt & a bit rude. The third time she was able to speak to management on the phone.
We can agree to disagree about having your Club O towel stolen from a Club O tagged chair.

Thanks Lyn,
I stand corrected and I am glad it all worked out for your friend eventually.
My apologies for my original doubts.

I'm glad that there was a satisfactory resolution. There really is no special allure to a Club Orient towel - it's just a plain off-yellow towel, a replica of which could be easily bought. I remember the old bright yellow ones, and how non-guests would take similar to the beach.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

Ok, I certainly believe you, it has been several years since I've seen a Club O towel.
It was a satisfactory resolution, my old friend has no idea her Club O towel ( theft )story has made it onto the internet. If I see her her in May, I might just bring it up over a glass of wine. She is a private person.
