I am sure other people will have more to say on this, but thought I would try. I think the Sonesta Maho is an all inclusive resort, and many on this travel forum have a huge following of favorite restaurants and would not opt for that type of setup. I think they have been doing many renovations in that area, and you can bet that the back of that resort (not called Sonesta Maho) is going to get the beach area / views. You won't be far from it, if you have been watching this board and read a lot about the Sunset Beach Bar for the plane watching (on a beach), that is right near the Sonesta Maho. They will see plenty of planes from where they are at, most people say it doesn't bother them being very close to the airport. There are shops and restaurants in close proximity to that resort.

My ex-brother in law has stayed there twice, once as recently as December 2014. They like the all inclusive atmosphere. They did go out to eat, and did take the bus around to different places, they did not rent a car. They said they loved the nice walk to Mullet Beach. Apparently on foot, not too bad of a walk. That would be the nicest beach close to Sonesto. Depends on what you like. To me, St.Martens is not an island to do an all inclusive. There are just too many wonderful places to eat and see. Not sure what an all inclusive costs,,,but I would think a fair bit because it is SXM. Hope they have a good time. They said they liked their room and they had no complaints with the food. But I did mention, they ate out a bit as well.

We have been going to sxm for almost 30 years. We have typically stayed at our timeshares but have also stayed at different hotels and villas over the years. This year we decided not to use our timeshare due to our dissatisfaction with it. I found an unbelievable deal for Maho so decided to have a new experience. We figured even if we just use it for breakfast and lunch and cocktails it'll be worth it. We figure if the food isn't good we can try some local restaurants, although some of the reviews on food have been good. We still haven't decided whether or not if we'll get a car. Looking forward to a new experience. At least we'll have access to a pool and beach which we don't have at our TS.

We stayed there some time ago. Beaches within walking distance are Maho, Mullet and Cupecoy. We did not have a car that year, and walked to all three beaches. Cupecoy is the farthest, but a brisk walk will get you there.
