Never having rented a four wheel/all wheel drive in SXM, I'm looking for help. Anyone had especially good or bad experiences?

We rented a Jeep from Hertz our first trip. The experience was fine, but the Jeep was not worth the money.

We rented a Yaris. Not the best but there was no off roading involved. Much more cost effective and sufficient for the week.

I see on another thread that you think you need the 4 wheel drive to get to your villa. Never rented a 4 wheel drive myself, but suggest you just go with one of the sponsors.

Location is on the French side across the road from Orient Bay entrance. It is way up in the air at the end of a very steep road.

Make sure that you confirm that whatever vehicle you rent is 4 wheel drive. We have rented SUV's on the island but they have all been 2 wheel drive - something rarely seen in those same models in the states. Don't assume that because it is an SUV that it is a 4 wheel drive - that has not been our experience.
