Anyone have anchorage advice for the weather this week? (see Wx below)

It was windy when we grabbed a ball at Trellis last night, but it wasn’t bad, even when some stuff rolled thru this morning. We’re still here now to pick up our kids arriving this afternoon and I’m curious about Trellis vs. Marina Cay tonight.

I’m curious if anyone has recommendations for specific areas of mooring fields or anchorages that would be good for this week.
This is our fifth or sixth time here and I feel that I’m pretty familiar with which areas are best to avoid.

You are going to be in the 15 to 20 knot range the next 5 days. Only good news is the N swell drops a bit on Tuesday and clocks around more to the east. Any of the protected anchorages will be fine. If you want to hide a bit from the wind Great and Little Harbor on Jost. Cooper, Great harbor at Peter, Bight but avoid the cut there. Cane Garden Bay should be OK Tuesday night or later. Marina Key will be OK but windy.

Lee Bay? Not far

Lee Bay will be windy. It might be impacted by the swell. Hard to call it with the shift to the NE.

Get one of the Bitter End Reserve balls on-line. They are closer to shore and more protected which makes for an easy dinghy ride. Ask them to have Captain Kinto pick you up and take you to Saba Rock. It was very easy and much better than a wet dinghy ride. We were there 2 nights ago. Leverick was pretty rolly and choppy last night.

I just figured with no fetch and good holding and steady wind direction it would be better than the tail wagging the dog at Marina Cay. I didn't know that Lee Bay feels the North swell tho...

Lee Bay gets the Northswell effect and rather badly if it’s straight out of the N. As it clocks around to the NE it gets better.

I talked to a friend who had a hell of a night at Cooper a couple days ago. Very crowded...mooring balls full and several boats anchored. Very rough and very gusty (he said 30-40kts). Bridles were snapping, boats were dragging and bumping. My friend finally had to get out and went down to Peter Is. for some shelter. Seems like the weather in general has been rougher than normal this season.

The weather is certainly different than it was 20 years ago. The Xmas wind and swell season are longer for sure. Cooper usually is pretty well protected from the East winds but as the wind clocks around to the ENE it gets worse. Given the forecast I am surprised anyone anchored at Cooper with the poor holding but people simply won’t change their plans for minor things like weather!

Well…we’ve been back home for a couple weeks now. It was a good trip but at the same time the least relaxing vacation I’ve ever had #uptownproblems.

Manpot - I think he is referring to generally windier conditions than the norm for this time of year. I was down in Feb for about a week and it was really nice. But, talking with others who have been there all season, its been rougher and windier = more challenging to find protected anchorages.
