There was nothing but blue skies and sunshine when I opened the drapes on Day 4. Then it started to rain. Then it monsooned. Then it poured – bucketfuls. It lasted a few hours and finally got sunny again at noon. A little rain was welcome to keep St. Maarten green.

We put on our workout gear and went for a two hour walk. It was hot and humid at this point, but we didn’t care. We made a serious error of trying to get though Maho Beach which meant weaving through the thousands of people lining the sand near the base of the airport landing strip. It was wild. People, beach towels, taxis, children, toys, umbrellas, vans, and buses – it was crazy. I’ve seen it busy before but not like this. We were almost hit twice. Finally, we got to the other side and walked towards Mr. D’s. We grabbed two Caribs and waited for Air France to land. Their wooden tower in their parking lot has a pretty good vantage point for anyone (like us) identifying as Avgeeks. By the time we got back to Maho, the crowd had dissipated a bit and we had an easier walk back.

After a quick snack at Tortuga (20% off appetizers and drinks) we spent the rest of the afternoon swimming in the ocean and the pool. We walked back to Driftwood and watched one of the best sunsets of the week. No green flash though…

We were enjoying our time on the balcony when hubby decided to grab some takeout from the Burger Bar in Maho. We love a good burger and were encouraged by others on TTOL to give them a try. Hubby brought home the Thursday night special which was two classic burgers, fries and your choice of pop or juice. Their homemade burger sauce was out of this world with the patty cooked but not overdone and topped off with a nice soft bun. Burger heaven for $30 – not too bad at all and definitely a good candidate for a “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

Burger Bar has been a big fave on our last two trips. Burgers are delicious, but more importantly, the staff is super nice and eager to please. They do a quick check to make sure everything is ok, they bring the bill right when you request it, and we're more than happy to leave a bit extra because we know the gratuity goes to the staff. Another draw for us is it's 20% off all burgers between 5-7pm. Great music too!
