Before we left USA for SXM our bank told us to NOT use our card at an ATM in SXM.

I don't think we've EVER used an ATM on SXM. We take a fair amount of cash and put most things on a credit card.

Same here. We always take more money than we would need just in case. Can always bring it back what you don't spend.

I always use cash and use the ATMs on the strip all the time. Those are well-trafficked areas visible from the main street. The picture in the article is not of the skimmers used, it is a stock image from Germany - I hate it when the press does that. The biggest skimming event in the Caribbean was years ago when the only ATM for the English Harbour / Falmouth Habour area was skimmed for a period lasting only about 24 hours. But the high-limit clientele in that area was worth it to the international ring.

Have gotten Euros from ATM in Hope Estate next to L'Express Bakery. Never had an issue!

Big deal if it's a stock photo. Important thing is is that they are catching those people and taking a stand to try and protect the people from this happening and bringing awareness to this.

We use them every trip but stick to the same successful machines on both sides usually hope estate and the bank of somebody in Simpson Bay.
