Hi All,
We used to charter almost yearly out of Tortola but have taken a break since covid. We chartered from Moorings for many years then switched over to ProValor which is no longer in business. Besides Moorings, who are the better companies to charter monohulls from. My husband and I are more than ready for a BVI sailing trip and have decided to try to do a last minute trip the end of this April. I am looking for recommendations of charter companies. We have some flexibility in our dates but ideally are looking for a sailboat 39-47' to charter 4/21-4/30. Any suggestions?
Thank you, Maggie

We second Conch or BVI Yacht Charters. Both have a nice selection of monos.

Yep, I’ll second BVI yacht charters, Always been easy to work with and good/newish, well kept boats - though I’ve never used anyone else, so I have little to compare.

I have chartered from The Captains Compass. I have found Brent to be meticulous with the state of his vessels.

We recently returned from a charter with BVI Yacht Charters. The boat was mostly in excellent shape, with a couple of exceptions. Some of the blocks were stuck or almost so. And the dinghy outboard was hard to start and tended to stall at idle. This was on a catamaran (first time for us). Our last charter was in 2017 (way too long in between) from TMM. That was on a very nice monohull, Celtic Tide, but I don't know their present inventory of monohulls. We spent the first and last nights at the dock at BVI YC. On the last night, the water was just slightly rough. You could barely see it when looking at the water, and on a mooring ball it probably would be no big deal. But with the boat tied up to the dock it was very uncomfortable. Any time one of the mooring lines pulled tight it would jerk the boat around, and similarly the boat would smack against the dock (with the fenders in between of course). We hardly slept that night, which didn't matter that much since we were just hopping on the ferry the next day. I walked over to the Moorings, and the boats there were not moving at all, so the waves apparently didn't make it around the corner and through the narrow opening. Many years ago we chartered out of Fat Hogs Bay and had a similar bad experience. Had no problems at TMM or a couple of times out of Nanny Cay. Just thought I'd mention it. Dan

I've used Sunsail, Conch and Captains Compass. I had an equally awesome time on every boat, the usual difference is the age of the boat. I would recommend any of them...

Can’t go wrong with BVIYC. Check their website “discounts” page they often have last minute deals, etc…on there (they have a few on-going promotions throughout the year as well. Abbie, Kelly and Cassie are the main office ladies, (everyone from office staff to checkout capt’s to dock hands are all super awesome) they’ll get you set up and dreaming of painkillers in no time!

I've rented from both Waypoints and Navigare. Don't have anything bad to say about either one. Both are in Nanny Cay.
