I'm confused, are tips currently taxed or not?

It really didn't say. Hopefully they will come out with a clarification.

My two cents. If you exempt tips from taxation, look for all sorts of jobs to become tip based. As if tipping isn't vague enough with the current practice.

OK, well I agree with that, that elimination of taxes on tips is a stupid idea. However, I guess from the story, we are supposed to assume that tips are currently taxed in SXM? That's my question.

Hi Carol , the Government is actually acting desperate lol 😂. Tips cannot be taxed period . What they need to do is tax the Air N B people because they are getting away tax free and they have to recheck the system of allowing big companies Tax free for ten years , and what happens is that these same companies change name ownership and get away tax free sucks 🤬

Lesley--tips cannot be taxed, because they are hard to track?

Only records would be the percentage of that part of the SC or what is hand written in the check that is supposed to go to the servers, cooks and ones that bus the tables. If in fact they do get some of the SC or tip. No different than here in the States.

Carol why ask this question, why tax tips , no way doesn’t make sense . The only thing that some places does , is that they give the impression that the tips goes to the staff , but doesn’t, pissing me off that’s why , we always tip cash directly to the person period 👍😊🙏

I’m surprised Lesley mentioned AirB&b. I’d forgotten about the fight long ago about them not being equal to taxes hotels pay.
