We're at the yacht club for appetizers, coconut shrimp and fish fingers and of course a couple of cocktails. It's 7:30 and the jump up parade is suppose to start Kim Sha Beach at 8:30 so I hope to get a few pics on the walk back to SBR. The parade goes down Airport Rd, across the Causeway then all the way down Union Rd and back down Welfare Rd to Kim Sha Beach by around 11:30. I'm told it's the people's party before Carnival.

Well we caught the Jump Up on our walk back to SBR. It consisted of 2 transport trucks with a band on each one. I've never felt my chest thumping like before in my life, I thought that it could interrupt my heart beat. I think the entire police force was on the street.

Gald you caught it. I have been on the island a couple of time for Carnival. Wendell and I went one year and went into town for the main parade. They do like their music loud!

BTW, I am glad you are referring to the appetizer at SMYC as "fish fingers". They used to be known as "grouper fingers" but a few years ago, they changed fish (swai) and the name on the menu, but some still think they are getting grouper. Lee's also changed the fish and chips and when asked, Val confirmed the change.

Those Fish Fingers looked really good! I could hear (very slightly) the thumping in our unit. Must have been extraordinarily loud where you were.

Swai is a fresh water river farmed catfish that is native to the Mekong River in S. Vietnam....... I'll take a hard pass on that. With what they charge they could afford to give you Grouper.

No disagreement here. I did have what appeared to be and tasted like grouper fingers one night at Skipjack's. They were not on the menu but were an appetizer special. I questioned the kind of fish and was told it was grouper.

As of 2 weeks ago, swai was used for fish and chips.
