Every now and then we try a new restaurant. Tonight we tried Izi's. I was going to try their salmon entree but on their special list was a filet and I'm a beef guy. Should have tried the salmon. Don't get me wrong the service was good and the food was good but just because it's a fancy restaurant doesn't mean the food is a step above any other restaurant. The filet I had at the Palms was delicious and at Jax's which I consider a fancy restaurant was delicious. My steak arrived and the utensils I had to work with was my fork and butter knife which would have worked at The Palms but not here. I had to ask the waitress for a steak knife. My wife had the lasagna which surprised me because her homemade lasagna can't be beat and it was far from hers. For dessert I had the chocolate molten cake. Meh. I sometimes think that the fancy restaurants are more concerned about the presentation rather than just providing good food.
The pictures are not the best because of the lighting.

Izi used to be good years ago when Marco was involved but has lost it's touch after he left then even more after recently sold. Again it was one of the featured restaurants of the week on the Jeff Burger rag. I've learned to take those recommendations with a grain of salt. Sometimes those recommendations are spot on only because they are good to begin with.

Lesson learned...... don't order steak at an Italian restaurant.

Agreed

But on the other hand

Don't put steak on the menu if it's not your specialty

I guess my wife's lesson learned would be

Don't order lasagna at an Italian restaurant when your own is better

Footnote on last night. I've never been told by a server if you give me a good review on TripAdvisor I'll get a bonus??

Sadly, when Davide sold/left LaGondola, everything went downhill. I hope the same is not happening here. While most reports of Izi with a new owner have been positive, Davide and Marco (when he was at Izi) were really on top of things. I have never had anything but pasta at Izi, but I have had a very good filet at Roma.

I would not like the pandering for a good review, and I am not a huge fan of TripAdvisor.

Four of us had dinner at Izi‘s Sunday night place was pretty crowded. I had linguine and clams, two others had the penne with spicy sausage, and the other dinner was shrimp with asparagus over risotto. All meals were as good as usual. Alan was there overseeing the room and helping out.
as far as TripAdvisor goes, I am not a fan either and don’t use it, but I will say in the past when Davide was there more than once as I was leaving, he asked me to leave a review on TripAdvisor. so old habits, die hard.

Sorry it wasn't that great. I don't really think of Izi as a fancy place, but I was honestly never that impressed with it. Begging for reviews online puts me off, for sure.

We visited Izi's twice on our trip. It's rare for us to go to the same place twice in 2 weeks, but it was so good we wanted our second week's guest to enjoy it too. Our choices included mostly Italian meals—veal Marsala, lobster ravioli, chicken Parmesan, plus a lovely white fish in a champagne sauce. All were excellent.

Our service both times was friendly and prompt. The first week our grandkids were along and the server took the order from the kids' menu when we sat down, so they could eat while we waited for adults' food.

We've gone to Izi's annually since it first opened and I didn't notice any decline in food quality or service. I actually prefer the vibe with the new owner. He's welcoming and clearly managing the dining room and helping his staff, but not hovering over them like the original guy did. It always felt like the staff was on edge because of his micromanaging every move they made, almost getting in their way.
