Between Rainbow Beach Club and Sapphire Beach Club in Cupecoy there is a walled property with a few single-story buildings, most with roofs damaged by Hurricane Irma and unrepaired. There is a caretaker with a dog, and the lawn is kept neatly mowed. Otherwise, not much seems to happen behind the locked gate. There are a few mango trees and coconut palms -- a nice property with damaged buildings.
Does anyone know anything about the property's owner and the history of the property? I'm just curious.

Yes, I was staying beside there at Sapphire Beach Club this past January and February. The property is called La Guachafita and was totally damaged by Irma and never reopened. It is currently up for sale for 27 million dollars. There is a caretaker and dog on site. I have noticed people with money coming by to look at the property. It is a very nice property and a great location, own beach access to Cupecoy beach.

Caribbean Canadians, Thanks for the info. I did find the real estate listing. Here's the link: https://www.century21-stmaarten.com/properties/luxury-development-beachfront-land/The listing includes a video with drone footage. The advertising copy implies that the price is $22 million -- it's 8,000 square meters, and it's "priced at $2750 per square meter." I can't find much info online for "La Guachafita," except for legal documents in Dutch that appear to refer to unpaid taxes.

Looks like they are allowed to build up to 21 stories with a casino, yuk. We don't need another casino. I wish the property would stay at the same level.

Caribbean Canadian, Why don't you buy the property and keep it the way it is now? Just fix up the house as a vacation property. That'll stop the developers from putting in a 21-story monstrosity!

If I had the money, I would buy it. My balcony at Sapphire overlooked their property. It is a gem, just the right size.

You could buy Trump's property much cheaper.

I'm sure the billionaires duo (trump and musk) could buy St. Maarten and totally destroy it.
