I have a feeling that both places are going down the hill….
At La Sucria (pardon my spelling) there is no more normal dishes, everything is served on a disposable plates and cups….The tables were pretty dirty… We got some sandwiches and they were ok, nothing special really….Coffee wasn’t that good at all! I don’t even know what else to say….the only thing they have really left from the past great place is the view….
We also went to Zee Best for breakfast next day. Upon entering the place we noticed right away how empty they were! Like oh my God, I have never seen so many empty tables there in 20 years ! So ok, we decided to stay and asked for the table. One of the waitresses took us to the table, it was covered with food crumbs and some liquid spills…. She had a rug, she wiped the table and invited us to sit down…. I said no way, this table needs a serious cleaning before I will eat from that!
We ended up at another table. The food was served and it was pretty good. Pastry that we had could’ve been much better though, especially the croissants! They were stale and tasteless. Coffee was good.

I haven't eaten at Zee Best since their move from Marigot. I had seen posted here that they are reserving pastries from other baskets before bringing to table. That means I will never go back.

La Sucerier has always been a favorite but I don't like drinking from paper cups. Do you think maybe they had run out of washed cups or is this their norm now? Any one else can report on this?

Zee Best used to do that. No idea if they still do. I saw it once, that was enough for me

We usually get from Le Sucrière to take back to the room.

We do not often go out for breakfast on SXM, as we usually have something simple, like a carry out quiche or some pastries, always from Le Suciere, or .the bakery at Super U. Funny, I don't recall, in all our years of going there, that we have EVER eaten at Le Sucriere! We always get pastries from there and take them back 'home' to eat them. We have never had anything bad from them. I hope that has not changed.

Similarly, we have never eaten at Zee Best. I don't know whether they still do the "recycled" pastries or not, but that is definitely a reason NOT to eat there. We have often gotten sandwiches from there, freshly made and wonderful.

If you are looking for someplace to have breakfast on SXM, you cannot do better than Reveil Matin. No view, but outstanding food and service. They have been voted best breakfast in the Daily Herald poll for several years, and that one, I definitely agree with!

Otherwise, in Simpson Bay, we haven't eaten there, but I hear good things about Juliette's. And we haven't been there for a while, but we have always enjoyed the breakfast at Hideaway at LaVista. Rest in peace, Piet..

I agree with Carol in that Reveil Matin can’t be beat for breakfast. We did have breakfast at Zee Best one morning while we were on island 2 weeks ago and they did not have the “recycled pastries” so hopefully that’s a thing of the past.

I'm with Carol in that we seldom eat breakfast out. We love eating on the lanai and watching the waves glisten in the sun before starting the day.

Zee best do not recycle their pastries since Covid. You go inside and choose what you want and they will place it in the basket and bring it to your table.
As for the paper coffee cups, I was told it’s what they do now. No more regular plates or cups.

I usually have breakfast on the balcony in my unit, but occasionally go out, just for a change. My favourite is also Reveil Matin.

On one of my "breakfast out" days in January I did go to La Sucriere. I, too, was surprised to get my cappuccino and breakfast sandwich, plus croissant, served in a paper cup and on a paper plate. So I guess that is the new "standard". It's a bit disappointing, since it is a nice view there on the deck.

Had breakfast at Zeee Best in January and it was wonderful; a St Maarten Omlet. Also often picked up fresh pastries and sandwiches at the Zee Best on Airport Road. Always top notch.

I like to make breakfast for myself and my traveling companions, but when I go out, I like the ambiance almost as much as the food.
That's why I like Chesterfields, Tortuga, SMYC, etc.

I miss Turtle Pier and the Mullet Beach breakfast buffet.

I remember on one of our first visits to SXM we stopped at a sidewalk cafe in Marigot where I tried out my newly acquired French but saying; "deux croissants et deux cafe noir sil vous plait."

What hubby remembers of that day was the young girl that walked by causing him to ask, as she passed, "was she wearing saran wrap for a top?" Need I explain more?
