Not a good situation. Be aware wherever you may be.

Another strike against the island at a place we enjoy.

That is about the only reason we go that way on the island as it seems less inviting then the causeway/marigot/orient route.

My job is to weigh the fun/risk ratio.

This adds to the denominator for SXM.

Tourists aren’t more important as victims as local victims are, but tourists are more important as dollar importers.

Where are the jails?, Who are the cops?, Who holds the meeting to tell the cops/prosecutors/jailers to up the game?

Are the sentences too silly to deter crime?

We like the birds, so I guess its better to know these bums are out there operating.

Sad situation. Scooters. Again. That story in the DH is weird though. Talking about robberies in 2023??

And, bystanders tried to prevent the arrest? What's up with that??????????

It's a different world. Look at the support that criminal that shot the Healthcare CEO is getting in the US. Unbelievable. You just can't make this Sh*t up.

Parrotte Ville has been very busy this week with lots of children on school break. Not a good situation at all.

The link in the OP appears to be broken. I just get a 404 error message.

It seems that the linked article, and the story, has been deleted.

It's no longer in the online paper or their Facebook page nor on another Facebook site that posted it. Maybe pressure from tourism department to take it down.

Scuba--if that is correct, that is very sad. However, the Daily Herald has carried MANY stories regarding crime over the years. I wonder if perhaps some of the information has turned out to be not correct.

Good you found it. The link on the bottom of that page goes nowhere now. Wonder how long this one will still work. Appears to be a cut and past from the Daily Herald.

A few years ago, two thugs barred the road just after Sandy Ground.
I slammed on the brakes.
Reversed and full throttle. The first guy was hit by his scooter and the second went over may car.
I then reversed to run over his legs and drove over him again. The first guy attempted to get up and my fender hit his face.
I then washed down my car and never heard a thing about it.

Why get caught carrying a gun when you drive a 2 ton weapon?

I also carry items that are not designed to be weapons. The first and most useful is a small flat screwdriver. If anyone grabs me when I'm in the driver seat I slam on the throttle, pull him into the car nd then give him some facial damage before lining up with a lamppost or a wall.

I also have a heavy crowbar. Useful two disable an attacker once he is down.

Oh my...it's turning i into the wild wild west...or vigilantes? !?! Not something I would be proud of? But then again, if I was under attack, not sure what I would do...many, many years ago, a friend and I were returning from the Dutch side to the French side where we were staying.. Very early morning hours returning from a club..., yeah, I know, not a good decision, but our first visit to the island...we were suddenly surrounded my cyclists, in front of, behind us, and on both sides, they kept trying to get us to slow down or stop..I told my friend, if worse comes to worse, I will run one of them over! Got home safely, but very scary!!

Not something I would be bragging about or admitting to on a public forum.

These incidents are getting worse and definitely a cause for concern. Tourists do not want to be always looking over their shoulders when on vacation. Sorry to hear of more being injured when trying to enjoy their time there.

Are you for real? I wouldn't be bragging about this, publicly OR privately.

Today's paper has a slightly different story on the front page about the incident. Apparently the tourists parked at the bird sanctuary and had planned a hike to Oyster Pond. Instead of going all the way to the end and turning left onto Oyster Pond Road, they took the first left and entered the Belvedere neighborhood which is where the robbery and assault took place. They went back to the bird sanctuary to report it and that's how the confusion apparently started.

The rest of the story concerning the arrests appears to be the same as previously reported before being taken down.
