I just heard a report that there are no longer any “ movable” umbrellas on the beach, just the Palapas. This will cause a problem. Is there any monitoring of people “toweling” chairs and not coming back for hours?

No idea on the umbrellas but most timeshare are notorious for people "toweling" chairs, and nothing being done to address it.

Toweling is a problem but you can take the liberty of removing them if unoccupied for a stipulated span of time which I have done at my resort. Check with resort management and find out what they say is a reasonable amount of time or their policy. I know next door at Flamingo signs are posted with the time stipulated which I don't recall it being.

I have never seen it enforced at any timeshare where I have rented. I will be at Royal Palm in a week and most loungers around the pool are "reserved" prior to daylight and often unoccupied into the late morning. Towels, shoes, books, etc., you name it and they use it to "reserve".

If it's not occupied for an hour or so just remove it and take to front desk or towel exchange booth. I've done it before and works. If you don't feel comfortable get security or someone from management do it for you. If it's a resort policy they'll have to enforce it for you if you ask them to.

My guess is that some "tip" the workers around the pool area and therefore nothing is ever done. I know you stay at Flamingo but is has always been rampant at Royal Palm, both around the pool and on the beach. Security....yea, right.

We are at SBR presently. I thought I saw umbrellas but I could be wrong, I will check tomorrow. There is a new policy. When you get your chairs you have to sign a form with your name & room number. “Chairs left unattended for longer than ONE (1) hour will be removed.” I guess you can’t complain if your belongings & chairs are removed since you signed the form.

Happens at Flamingo too but unless you complain or take action nothing will happen. Hopefully Flamingo will have same enforcement that SBR started.

I seldom hang around the pool, but friends do, and it has always been a problem at Royal Palm. I bet if someone complains, especially someone renting and not a timeshare owner, the person abusing the "reserved" thing will complain even louder. I might take a couple of pics when there to show the situation when it happens.

At Royal Palm, I much prefer to be under one of the sun shades, as I prefer having more space. Since you're up early, JD, you probably will see towels on chairs at 6 am, probably from the night before!!

Enjoy your trip!

Yes, and thank you. When you see the same people in the same chairs' day after day, you know something is up.

This is now being discussed on one of the facebook groups and from what I can surmise from some of the discussion, it is not really being enfoced. Imagine that.

To bring this back up. At 9:00 last night and still this morning at 7:45, there are several towels on loungers here at Royal Palm. The workers are cleaning around the pool and not touching the "reserved by towel" loungers.

Getting back to the original poster's question...

Yes there are still moveable umbrellas at Simpson Bay Resort. Just back from a week @ SBR. Elvis and crew still manage the process well.
