Faxinfo is reporting that a German tourist was shot during a Tuesday evening robbery in a Baie Nettle restaurant. I’m not seeing the incident reported anywhere else. My French-side contact is in Guadeloupe this week, so I can’t verify it locally.

Is anyone else hearing anything?

I saw a report of this in a Facebook group. As I recall a woman said she was eating dinner at Mezza Luna and saw a flash by a table on the beach where a couple was eating and a person with a hood was by the table. There wasn' t much more detail but it seems to match with what was reported about a woman being shot at a restaurant there.

My goodness, what is happening on this island? I haven't been back in a few years now, was hoping to return next year, but all of the goings on is seriously making me reconsider!! Good grief🙏

I saw mention of this online, I thought it was here, but not sure. Scary.

Was it at Mezzanine Luna or they saw it from Mezzanine Luna?

Either way, sounds like the King of the Netherlands and Emmanuel better have a community policing meeting

From the article (which may not be completely accurate due to incomplete info) it sounds as though the armed men literally just came up from the beach and invaded the restaurant. Did they just start shaking down the restaurant patrons for their valuables and when one said no or offered resistance they shot her? Not late night either, only 8:10 pm. That is very chilling.

This Sh**t is becoming more frequent. Makes me want to stick closer to my resort in the evening. Not the island of past.

We concur. My husband said a very similar thing after this latest news. We stay in Orient Village and absolutely adore it. I have never felt even slightly unsafe walking back to our apartment at night so I am not worried about this next trip in a couple days but this has definitely scared us off venturing out of our little zone for dinner. Thankfully we are spoiled for choice. We will just have to be satisfied venturing forth for lunches and daytime fun. But this news is concerning.

Orient has been pretty good, but even Club Orient had some infiltrators I recall at least once that snuck by security. When it was open, our heads would be on a swivel if we walked between Village “square” back to Pedros. Been worried but never threatened on the few times we made that walk even during daylight.

Anyway, Be careful wherever you are, even SXM

All this really makes me appreciate GCBC more. Dedicated guest shuttle to and from restaurants each night. Gated property.

It's a shame that is what has to be done in that area to make patrons feel comfortable to go out to dine.

How will a shuttle help you if someone armed enters a restaurants and shoots? These people were at Mezzaluna and the thugs entered from the beach. Sadly this could happen anywhere.
